Kit gun laws

I understood that kit guns can no longer include the barrel. Would the same laws apply to a gun kit originally made in the US and shipped from overseas? I'm referring to a Thompson.

There is no "kit gun" law. The ruling prohibits importation of certain foreign surplus military gun parts (barrels) used to build or repair guns that would not be importible.

Due to a Clinton executive order (deliberately left in place by Dubya), US-made military firearms cannot be brought back into the US. This includes ALL parts for these guns.

You're saying that this kit can't be imported then.

You cannot import Thompson parts without approval from BATFE.

However, there are Thompson parts kits already in the US; I have seen them in the $500-600 range. You can even buy them installed on a dummy receiver for $700-800.
