From Florida's Nature Coast [8D],

I have a Marlin 1893 that will be up for auction on GB by tomorrow but I need a little help......

I cannot find the caliber stamped anywhere although it looks to ne a 30 cal (I have no 30-30 on hand to check but I did find that a 30-06 bullet would not fit the muzzle end). Realizing that a fired round it "forced" through the barrel it's easy to underdstand a 30 cal. bullet not allowing me to push it in for size. The loading gate is almost 1.5" on the nose. Until I get a 30-30 round to see if it will chamber I need a best guess for caliber!

Also, the serial number is C9093. Others I've seen were all numbers. Any able to "date" this rifle? It has a 26" barrel.

Thanks ahead of time!!

Did you try searching on the auction side for simliar guns? I can't help you but I believe that the 93 Marlins were chambered in pistol rounds? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Jeez I'm already kicking myself for some reason I was thinking of the 92 Winchester.

    It could be 25-36 Marlin, 30-30, 32spl, or 38-55 [?]
I had one in 30-30, it was clearly marked -

the caliber 'should' be marked on top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. however the barrel may have been replaced or the lettering worn off.
