Inland M1 Carbine w/ scabbard

Just looked at a Inland carbine w/ leather scabbard.
Ser # on gun is 5132xxx. Barrel is dated 4-44 (also marked Inland).
Bayo lug is stamped EM-Q. Barrel band is marked MMQ. Has adjustable peep sight and switch style safety. Scabbard is marked "US
S. FROEHLIGH CO 1943". Do these markings suggest an original carbine? Dealer priced it to me at $650, is this a good buy? Please let me know something in the next couple of hours. Thanks !!

What you have told us suggests that it is NOT an original carbine. You have not given us enough information to tell if it is a fair price or not.

Did you ask him to remove the action from the stock? If not, have him do so. If barrel or receiver have an import marking that can be seen when removed from the stock, it is probably not a good buy. Ask the dealer to check the muzzle wear with a gauge; if he doesn't have a gauge, or it measures > 2.5, it is probably not a good buy. Are there any Korean markings on the stock? If so, it's probably not a good buy.

There are no markings on the stock that I could see. I did not have him remove the action from the stock, but I will do so later tonight. What about the scabbard? Is it a repro or the real thing? It is in excellent shape, and as such, I think that it may be a repro.

The markings sound correct for a vehicle scabbard. It should have a dark gray park slot for the op rod handle. They were made of bridle leather, so the leather should be very thick. It should also be dark brown from age & oil.

I have no idea of the value of an original scabbard.

Neal, where would the markings be that I am looking for, and what would they look like ?

The markings I referred to are the S Froehligh & the date. That's all there will be in the way of markings, most likely.

The leather is supposed to be > 60 years old; if it looks like it was made last year, it probably was.

Sorry, I meant the import markings that may be on the gun / barrel.
The scabbard has to have some age to it, due to the green corrosion that is all over the metal snaps / hardware. Thanks.

Import markings will be the importers name, city, & state. The "name" could just be initials, the city could be abbreviated. And, they could be anywhere on the barrel or receiver.

"Blue Sky" importer sometimes stamped the barrel so hard it flattened one side.
