Lonewolf - which flavor of .38-50? While the .38-50 Ballard had its time in the sun, my first thought would be the Remington-Hepburn cartridge. There was also a .38-50 Maynard M1882 (the only model of Maynard cartridges which don't look as though Rube Goldberg had a hand in the design).
I doubt that anyone has 38-50 Ballard cartridges! The 38-50 was replaced with the 38-55 in the early 1880s. If you truly have a Ballard rifle chambered for 38-50, you can make new cases by trimming .2 inches off of a 38-55 case.
