Is there a model number anywhere on it? The Rnger name was used by a lot of different manufacturers. SxS, pump, single shot?

Oops sorry, didn't see that SxS in your topic. Most likely a Stevens 311.

if at auction, between $150- $200, if in descent shape. $250 being great in shape.

The gun will be either a Stevens or a Hunter boxlock. They will be almost identical except for some minor differences in the receiver and that the Hunter gun will have Armor Steel tubes.

I'd expect the Hunter gun to be better finished overall with slightly nicer wood. Thus, I'd add a few dollars to the estimate given if the gun proves to be made by Hunter Arms.

Reliability and utility of either are unquestioned. Both make fine field guns.

To give an idea of how long Ranger guns have been around, my grandmother bought my grandfather a 12 ga. Ranger SxS on their first wedding anniversary, in 1935.
