Remington 760 Stock Finish ????

I have a early 70's model Rem 760 that I want to refinish the stock on. I want to put it back as close to the factory finish as possible. It has that high gloss, orangish pecan colored tint to it. I'm not sure what the thick clear coat over the wood is, varnish, epoxy, etc.???? Is there a product out there I can buy to put that same type of finish back on it? And does anyone know how to recreate that orangish color, stain or is it in the clear coat??? Thanks!

    Seems like the Remington rifles from that era had a gloss urethane finish. Any paint store should stock a good gloss urethane. Refinishing is a bit tricky, takes more than a little care to avoid runs in the finish and buildup in the impressed checkering.
    As to the stain, I'd just get small amounts of several water- or alcohol-based stains and try mixing them for that orange color.
