This is a new one to me. I am only familiar with the Advanced Technologies bolt kit which requires the bolt handle to be cut off at its base, and a hole for a large machine screw to be drilled and tapped in the bolt's side. The replacement handle then fits over the stub of the bolt handle and is secured in that position by the machine screw. The new bolt handle is stainless (good idea) but a little short/stubby. I have seen the factory original bent bolts for the sniper rifles on the market once in awhile, but they are usually pretty expensive as there were far fewer sniper versions manufactured, and therefore fewer bolts available; and in my opinion they look a little odd also, being disproportionately long. I have seen a number of "homegrown" bolt bending jobs on the Mosin Nagant, including one that was heated white-hot and stretched/pulled into something long and thin, but have rarely seen one that looked good. The couple that I liked were done the old fashioned way by cutting off the original handle and welding on a new sporter-style handle. The sticker on doing anything with the Mosin bolt handle is that whatever is done must be able to pass through the split receiver bridge, unlike a Mauser where the handle starts out behind the receiver bridge. Since so many Mosins are currently being imported, and no doubt will continue to be imported for a long time, I (for one) would be very interested in hearing back on anything you find out. I am currently unaware of anyone offerring altered/bent bolt handles commercially.

    Check out http://www.armscenter.com/boltman/

I haven't dealt with the fellow, but I've heard a few other folks speak highly of his work. The photos look like pretty nice bolts.

Jim the bolt man makes a bolt that works with ATI scope mount and it's not all cut up. The pics of his bolts are really nice looking. and he sells them for 55.00 s/h inculded. Interordance sells a M-44 "sniper" with a 6x24 scope and bent bolt for 270.00. They also sell just a bent bolt for 100.00, the scope and mount cost 120.00. I had never done business with them until the other day. I bought a M-44 (non-"sniper") for 59.95 and let me tell ya It's a nice gun. The bore looks like a mirror. The butt plate is the only non-matching number, and the wood looks almost like new. I cant wait to take this lil gem out and shoot it.

I visited Jim R.'s website and looked at the photos--thanks for posting the link. These are cut and welded, and the weld is very visible in the "Swept Bolt Photo" at the base of the handle--less so in the other photos. The "ATI" bolt is very well done indeed. There is one concern, should one purchase one of Jim's bolts to install in their rifle, and that is the possibility that it would not headspace. I would recommend sending him the bolt from your rifle for alteration.

I used the Advance tech's bolt conversion and had to drill and tap another hole to make it a decent and sturdy conversion. Worked out good this way. Although it looks a little tacky, it functions very nicely.
