7.62X54 Ballistic Counterpart?

What is the closest ballistic counterpart to the 7.62X54? Would it be the Argentine 7.65X54? The Springfield 30.06? Nato .308?

Current US loading data has It pretty equal to a 30-06 in most respects. I think it shares more with the 30-06 than the 308 because of the larger case capacity and lower pressures and will do better with heavy bullets. I haven't chronoed the S&B but it must run at some insane pressures because I got About 10% case cracks the first time through the rifle. After that the brass seems to stay together fine. the little bit of Norma factory ammo I have run through them doesn't recoil nearly as sharply.

Richbug's got a point, depending on the loads, some are in the 30.06 range. It really depends on the particular lot, some of that milsurp stuff is loaded piping hot and some is pretty tame. I'm not sure about new loadings like S&B and such. Any info there Richbug?

Between the .303British and .308Win is usually the case but i too have seen 7.62x54 ammo that was in the 30-06 range.

Sometimes I wonder where these responses come from! Check any data you wish, and you will find that it is EXACTLY equal to and the same as 30/06! Of course it is possible to load it a bit light or a bit hot, but capacities are IDENTICAL!
