Wildcat Creation

Can some of you expert wildcaters comment on this idea? Start with the .300 Rem ultra mag case at full length, 2.85 inches - a beltless case. This is really the old british cartridge 404 Jeffery but, Rem used the 375 H and H rim size which is smaller than the origional which was .544 at the rim and base on the Jeffery. Neck this case to shoot the .409 or .410 premium big game bullets like Barnes solids. Why .410 and not the hot , trendy .416? Easy, at .410 diameter, cheap pistol bullets can be hand loaded for cheap practice rounds, better pistol bullets could be used as short range dear loads. At the 400 grain weight with best grade bullets, ELEPHANT would have as much to fear as if you were shooting .416 Rigby. This would be an easy and super rechamber from the .416 Rem Mag which shoots at too high a presure for my taste, 55,000 +.By the way, lets do the whole proceedure on a .416 Rigby case too. Get wonderful LOW presure readings, like 45,000 CUP or less, (beautiful in super heated Africa)

Give Remchester a bit of time and I would'nt be suprised to see the manufacturers coming out with .375 and up calibers based on their Ultra and Short Mag cases. The current line of thought seems to be - "Give'um what they want!" If they figure there's enough market to warrant the tooling up, it will be done. Many folks have been advocating the same thing, so maybe the major domo's will take heed.

    Keep off the Ridgeline

The .375 UltraMag is currently available through Remington.
