On the backcover of my August 2003 Shooting Times is an ad for Speer 45 GAP ammo. Is this a new cartridge or is Speer just loading light recoil loads for a new Glock pistol?

New cartridge. shorter case than 45acp. Intended for the smaller frame Glocks. Supposed to have better balistics than the old 45acp

I think this will be another innovation in search of a non-existent problem. That a cartridge like 45 acp would be around almost a century to be rediscovered by various high level military and law enforcement as still the best major auto caliber pretty much says it all. Glock is just trying to ride on the coattails of the king.

ive read about it , never saw one.the article i read lead me to believe that the 45 glocks velocities were lower than the acp.and with a lighter bullet 185-200gr

Makes sense that the cartridge will have lower ballistic performance. Maybe they can squeeze higher velocities out of lighter bullets because the SAAMI operating pressure limit is higher.

The only sense this makes is if the pistols are significantly smaller in size and lighter in weight. I'll probably be sticking with the ACP.
