Hi all, first time posting on forum, I just bought a Colt commander 45 serial #CLW004536 from what I have found it was Mfg. in 1969 it's probably 60-70% It has adjustable rear sights I thought they were fixed on the Colt Commander or were they adjustable before 1970? I haven't even shot it yet am going to this weekend any input on what ammo I should use I'm 66 years old and don't want something thats going to kick my butt.

Thanks, Tom Oh I paid $150.00 for it I almost feel guilty almost

Can someone help me identify a blue Commander? It starts with the serial number "80SB" and has five digits after that. It is not cut for the 80 Series safety but everything I have found says that 70 Series guns start with "70". For all outward appearances, lettering etc. it looks like a 70. Any help is appreciated.

Hello are you sure of the serial both letters and number of digits in the complete serial I show 1969 as the first year with CLW prefix but then followed by 6 digits 001001 as the first one but this was not satin nickle the first satin nickle was 1972 but the serial had the letters 70SC05401. ??????

There were no satin nickel Commander's made by Colt. They were all Combat Commanders (steel frame). This is probably a refinished gun. A serial number starting with CLW would be a Colt Commander with the blue finish.

well the serial number CLW0O42XX I guess it is 6 digits but it looks to be nickle so it probably was refinished. Thats ok still looks to be a nice pistol, any value or what im saying is what should I offer him?

The satin nickel CC was only available in steel for a good reason: It's not possible to plate aluminum alloy. There are ways to apply a finish to aluminum that LOOKS like stainless, but there's no way to know if this was done properly & will hold up for long. The same goes for the frame plating.

    So, I wouldn't pay > $300 for the gun.
