Winchester Super X Model 1 Questions

I own a Winchester Super X Model 1 in 12 ga. Gun has a 30" "Full Trap Choke" bbl with vent rib. Beautiful wood front and rear. Is this a trap gun? How do I know for sure? BBL is marked trap choke. Serial number is M44XXX. What is it worth? Gun is 95% condition with minor handling marks. All information is appreciated.

Hello pjpjr: Can you describe the butt stock? If it has a Monte Carlo style butt stock it's definately a Trap gun. However it could have what is known as a straight Trap stock, what's the drop at the heel? Also both styles came with a Winchester recoil pad? Field and skeet guns will have about 2 1/4 inches drop at the heel where a straight Trap stock will be about 1 1/2- 1 3/4 inches of drop. Value can vary some had real nice stocks, lots of figure if you are accurrate at 95% About $475-$700.

Thanks for replies, I measured the drop and it is 1 5/8" drop. The guy I got it from told me he wanted a standard straight trap stock, not the monte carlo and ordered it that way. Gun does have a Winchester butt pad with spacer etc. Also vent rib has tiny mid bead.

early guns came with type 1 triggers. type one had grooves in the trigger and were adjustable for backlash. around 1977/8, they switched to the XTR version which is identified by white spacers behind the grip cap and pad and a stainless mag tube. they switched to the type 2 trigger lacking adjustment and have smooth triggers too. your trap full bbl is very desirable. its actually a very very tight full, closer to extra full. all trap guns came with pads. skeet guns were plates only. later model guns were plagued with salt wood rusting issues. earlier guns are more sought after. none the less, it is by far the most desirable semi auto target gun ever made. in 95% it should still fetch around 500.00+.
btw...my super x has 750,000+ logged in it. very strong guns.

it IS a trap gun. it is by far the most sought after semi auto trap gun out there!

youre absolutely ready to shoot trap with it just the way it is. monte carlo or straight trap stock...doesnt matter. stand the gun on the pad pointing up. its pretty straight up isnt it? thats a trap gun. do the same thing to a skeet or field gun and it will tilt forward. thats how you tell.

you have an early trigger. shoot the gun. did it go bang? no adjustment needed.

or, shoot it. did it go click and nothing happened? and 5 seconds later for no reason it went BANG when you werent ready? the backlash screw lossened up.

drop the trigger assy and look for that little rascal. its an allen screw on the sear. take it out. save it. youre all set.
