CA Gun Law Changes

edited January 2006 in Ask the Experts
Just visited the CA DOJ website, found two interesting changes for 2006 regarding handguns. All new model centerfire semiauto handguns must have mag disconnect & loaded chamber indicator. Old models are still OK for sale.
Also, single shot pistols (T/C Contender & Encore type) don't need to pass the CA handgun safety tests. In effect, they're treated as rifles.

I went into a little more detail on other site - suffice to say you don't want to have this sort of thing spread to other states. The state passes laws under the guise of safety & then they squeeze - no mags over 10 rds, 10 day wait, gun lock with every sale, no private party sales, more $$$ for background checks. The intent is to make it a pain in the neck to own guns, minimize the number of people who own guns & to then eliminate as many guns as possible.

The fact that there is even discussion over a SINGLE SHOT PISTOL should make clear to anyone that the intent is banning all guns & to do it in increments. "Gun safety" is just a euphemism for gun ban.

Doug...... Your absolutely right. The gun ban crowd knows they cannot, just overnight, make sweeping gun bans get through the legislature.

They have even been known to admit that they plan to chip away slowly at gun owners rights until eventually no one will be able to own guns.

By "no private party sales" I assume you mean without any paperwork, as in the old days. Private party sales are ok in Cal as long as it goes through a dealer. One good thing is the PP sales of handguns are exempt from the 30 day rule.

They were suppose to add a couple of handguns to the "approved" list. Retired Senator Dick Mountjoy announced today he is coming out of retirement to run against Diane Fineswine and the Calif Republican party wasn't even aware of it! He is Pro-Gun and a 2nd Amendment supporter.

What 30 day rule? The waiting period is 10 days & applies to
private party sales a swell. The FFL who handles the paperwork
    holds the gun.

By private party I do mean as in the "good old days" without going through a dealer, waiting 10 days, etc. California restricts NEW handgun purchases to no more than 1 every 30 days. Buying a used handgun is not restricted to 1 per 30 days - at least not yet. Good to hear someone progun is going to challenge Feinstein.
