slagment
Member Posts: 117 ✭✭
Looking to make some room in the gun safe. How much can I get for a mosin nagant that:
--the bad--
has mismatched numbers,
czarist marks removed,
re-varnished stock,
--the good--
good bore,
with detachable bayonet,
made in 1915,
not a carbine but the full size rifle.

Before the Russian Revolution all the Mosin Nagant had an Imperial
Crest stamped into the top of the receiver with the date of manufacture
below it. Once the Czar and his Czarist family was dispatched and the
Reds took over all the ex-Cazrist Mosin Nagant rifles they could get
a hold of had the Imperial Crests ground off. New Mosin Nagants
(after 1918) had a 'hammer and sickle' stamp where the Czarist crest
had once been stamped. Many folks want their early Mosin Nagants to
have that crest 'unscrubded.'
Incidentally, there were a HUGE number of Imperial Mosin Nagants
manufactured by Remington before 1918. When the Czar got
whacked by the Commies Remington Arms was not paid for their
contract with Czarist Russia and they (Remington) almost went
belly up, too! Many of those Remington Mosin Nagant were given away
to universities for R.O.T.C. drill practice. I have one myself - with
Czarist crest intact, made by Remingron Arms, in the good old U.S.A.
in 1917!
