Iver & Johnson 16GA

I have a 16ga. with marking on the left side: Iver & Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works Fitchburg, MA On the top of the barrel it says Iver Johnson patent applied for. On the trigger guard are the numbers 52021. Any idea how old this gun is and what it's worth?

    Probably a "Champion" model MFGerd from 1909 to 1973. Not alot of value. Standard Model "book value" runs $150.'ish in Ex condition. Most in solid used condition bring $75.-$100.

    any iver johnson champion single barrel with any kind of patent markings (patent pending or actual patent dates would be very early model manufactured between 1900 and 1919. would need a better description of the gun and how it is taken down.

    the campion name was used as early as 1883 and iver johson's arms & cycle works was used as early as 1894. only a shotgun manufactured after 1900 would have both markings. 16 gauge was very popular on these early guns not so popular after about 1915 or so.

    It doesn't say that it is a Champion anywhere on the gun. Is this a really popular model? It is a single shot break open. Maybe the numbers on the trigger guard are the key to the age? I guess they are the serial number. Thanks for your help.

    They were very popular inexpensive field grade guns. Many thousands were produced over the very long production run. THey are good ole guns, just not worth alot. Your early one might have slight collector appeal.

    if it is not marked with the champion name it will be a pre 1909 or post 1896 model. does it have any patent date markings on the barrel or frame? does it have a top lever to open the action? how do you remove the barrel from the frame? it will probably take a good quality picture to properly identify.
