SKS ammo Question? 7.62x39

I picked up some sks ammo. It is in 10 rnd. packs. It says on the back of the package 10 Stuck with two dots above the u. Also says M 43 Ub on the back of the package (two dots above the U again). Rounds themselves have 05 stamped on the top of the rear and 77 stamped on the bottom.

Is this stuff any good? Where is it made? I bought it fairly cheap and I wanted to make sure that it isn't garbage. Thanks.

German. Bet "77" is the year. It'll be corrosive. Whether it works depends on condition.

    Welcome to the Forum
You will be the one to determine if it is garbage or not...let us know !
There is no reason to NOT shoot corrosive primed ammo. Just wash your gun well when you are finished shooting.

Fortunately the 7.62x39 import ammo is pretty cheap. If you enjoy shooting you will likely want to pick up 1000 rounds at a case price and save a little more money.

    ENJOY !

WAS cheap. Ok, is still pretty cheap compared to most other calibers. Russian import ammo has been hard to find recently. Word is that some S.American country put in a huge order. Plus alot is reportedly going to the mid-east to be fired at our troops. If you see some at a decent price, better stock up!

Thanks for the help. I haven't shot any of it yet. I picked it up for $80 for 1000 rounds and that seemed pretty cheap. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some stuff that I should stay away from or anything.

Not a bad price, either! In case you didn't get the message from the above, the ammo MIGHT be corrosive, might not; combloc ammo is suspect from any era. Corrosive ammo is corrosive b/c of a certain salt compound in the primer.

Just to be safe, after every shooting, wipe off the piston and rinse the inside of the gas tube with a little hot soapy water. Run a few wet patches through the bore. Do the same to the bolt face. Dry, then clean as ususal. Adds perhaps 1 minute to the cleaning regiment and works fine. Some guys use windex; this works because it has water in it, but also starts to work on the copper. Your call.

thats not that great a price, ecpecially if is corrosive. ive never heard of , nor is there any need to shoot corrosive ammo in 7.62 gun. why buy ammo such as that when you can get non-corrosive for the same price or cheaper?

I aggree with 1000 for 80 and being corrosive. Most of the time it is a lot cheaper unless the rounds are precliped then the price does go up. A few weeks ago I got the only 510 non-corroseve rounds at a local gun show for $80 and am glad to get it. The word is, from the guy I usually get ammo from, is the US Government is puchasing the ammo to send overseas to train the Iraq Millatary and that the general public MIGHT be able to start getting 7.62x39 by April or May. Your best bet with the ammo is to clean the gun after every time you go shooting. Good luck
