My pop had one chambered in 3" .410. (my big bro. is now the prowd owner)Ser. #1123600 proof mark on bbl. is PEP inside an oval.
It was reblued in the late 60's or early 70's by a gunsmith in NJ.
He says he traded a 16 Ga. SxS and $200.00 for it in the mid to late 1950's Any opinions of what it's worth now or info on how well built it is would be greatly appreciated. It has and always will be a field gun.
Thanks in advance....

Jeff

choke and rib make a big difference moneywise. reblued guns are like shooting ones self in the foot on value. make good shooters. forearms tended to crack. overall, nice gun.

fishkiller, seeing that in 1950 the gun was worth about 70 bucks that your dad got a good trade. but in my neck of the woods, if your gun is in any kind of descent shape, being a 410, will go for $400 to $700, depending on that condition. thanks

There was a model 48 "Sportsman" and a model 11-48 which was the immediate predecessor to the model 1100. I don't have my books, so I can't tell you the details. I have an 11-48.

fyi actually, the predecessor to the 1100 was the 878, the 58, then the 1148.
11-48's command premiums in skeet small gauges with ribs. otherwise, they tend to be slow movers.

The Remington 11-48 in .410 commands a premium around here. I've seen them go for $400. The 12 gauge ones sell for maybe $210.

This is what a Sportsman 48 looks like. I have these for sale right now.

They look like a 1100 but are recoil operated like the browning auto 5 and copies.
