Wasn't quick enough to get my 2 cents worth in on the original before the "10 count lock-out" and since no one had mentioned the following I thought it might be worth having another go-around.
Other than the obvious: (heavier bullets at faster velocities kick more) I've found that the best way to reduce felt recoil is to have a stock that fits right.
A 30-06 Rem. 700 is painful to me. A 300 magnum in a Sako stock is much more comfortable. If money were no object all of my rifles would be custom stocked. As it is, the older I get, the more I appreciate smaller bullets at lower velocities. If I can't get it done with a .257 Bob or a 7-08 I no longer feel the need to get it done.
