Serviceman's Flag

As a small boy during WWII, I was fascinated by anything having to do with the war. There was a small "flag" that hung in windows of homes of people that sent a brother, father, husband into the armed forces. It had a red border, a white field with a blue star for each individual in the Service. The star was replaced with a gold one if that person gave his life in the armed forces. That flag was again used here and there during Desert Storm. Was there a name for that flag?

When I was a tot they were known as Lone Star Mothers Flags, where I lived. Which apparently is not correct, as far as this Wiki article is concerned. I personally have never heard the term, Blue Star Mother's?
