.308 BAR to .338 Federal or .358 Winchester

I have an older beat up .308 BAR. I was thinking of having it re-barreled to .338 Federal or .358 Winchester. Anyone know if it would cycle correctly with either round?

re-barreling a BAR is NOT an easy job. Not only do you have to fit and headspace the barrel to a very thin receiver, you have to position the gas port and block and then find the orfice size to reliably function the action. It would be cheaper to buy a new rifle.

I've looked into this in the past. The successful conversions I know of involved reboring the barrel as opposed to replacing it.

OK, thanks. I'll just keep it .308. It functions fine, just beat up.
