Mounting Leupold scope on Marlin 39A

I've enjoyed shooting my old Marlin Golden 39A Mountie for many years, but the eyes are starting to go. So I just bought a Leupold Gold Ring VARI - X 2X7 RimFire Special Scope ... good price from my brother.

What is your experience and suggestions for mounting this scope.

Does yours have any other holes other than the top of the receiver? If it does then you have a few different options, however I prefer to use either a Leupold or Redfield Jr. 1 piece base with matching rings. I prefer the looks of those over the Weaver style. Either way you can't go wrong, and don't forget that you'll probably need a hammer extension.

I am on a trip right now so I cannot answer your question about holes in the receiver of my Marlin Mountie. I just had some time to check some info from the experts.

All of the 39s that I have seen that were made within the last 50 or 60 years have been drilled/tapped for scope mounts and new ones come with a base and possibly rings. It should not be a problem to have the scope mounted and the 2-7x should work very well on it.

My Mountie has factory holes/flat mount on top for scope, 2 small holes/screws on the left side for a peep-sight, some earlier models have holes on the barrel for scope mounting too. If your rifle doesn't already have one you'll probably need a hammer spur to clear the scope so you can cock/release the hammer safely. [;)]

My early 39A golden Mountie has holes D/T on the top of the receiver.
All you need is the base and rings [;)]

Hi y'al ... I'm back from my trip and I had a quick check of my Marlin 39A Golden Mountie. You are right, It is already drilled and tapped on top of the receiver. Now I'll just pick which base and rings to get and I'll be all set! This is going to be a fun lever gun to shoot (already was!) with the new scope it is going to be neat to see how far I can reach out!

Thanks for the good scoop! You guys are the EXPERTS!

    Happy 4th of July, too!

You might want to look into getting one of those hammer extensions, so that you can access the hammer without getting your thumb stuck between the hammer and the scope.

I thought I'd found the base and rings on gun broker auction site, but now I can't seem to find them. Getting old, I am ... what should I look up? Thanks
