Atlanta

In a couple months will drive to Atlanta for a week. About 8 hours. Just vacation. We either pick a city and visit or go to Europe (about every 12 years). I think we will drive right past the CMP store in Anniston so I will drop in to check it out.

What's it like in Georgia for concealed carry? What's off limits? Any weird rules? Pretty sure my AR permit is recognized.

Anything gun related to see there? Other than the aquarium and the Coca Cola Museum any recommendations for sightseeing?

We were flying on the way to Rome and stopped over in Atlanta. Went to the Aquarium, which is worth a visit if not the best ever (National Aquarium in Baltimore is better by a good margin) and the Zoo, which is not huge but is quite good. That was it for us, didn't find any restaurants to recommend either. Since we were flying, no gun stuff.

Doc Traffic is murder in and around Atlanta. From 0800-0930 and 1530-1800 the traffic is brutal especially inside 285.

There are some really good restaurants on the area. I have lived in many places and enjoy good BBQ. I will say this is the best BBQ in Georgia:

    https://www.oldbrickpitbbq.com/

The place has been there forever and its awesome. The Brunswick stew is the best I have ever had.

    The Aquarium is nice.

The High Museum of Art is not too bad:
    https://www.high.org/

I don't do much gun stuff when I am there but I heard Chucks Gunshop in Buckhead has some good stuff.

The Delta Flight Museum was fun.

Stone Mountain is great to visit

For steak Bones is the best place but its not cheap, Kevin Rathbun Steak is really goo too.

Italian food: I like Aldo's in Sandy Springs http://aldositaliantogo.com/

also ECCO is really good; http://midtown.ecco-atlanta.com/

Rays on the River or Rays in the City has really good food especially Seafood. https://www.raysrestaurants.com/#

I almost forgot about Poor Calvins; https://www.poorcalvins.com/

Its really good. They serve frog-legs! I love Frog-legs but they have other stuff too.

You got to see Stone Mountain, the Coca Cola museum, Zoo Atlanta, Aquarium....Atlanta despite reputation of it's large population of minorities is still full of very friendly people who like everyone else hates crime, just stay out of the slum areas. Georgia is very, very firearm friendly but do watch for "NO Firearm" signs (even that is ignorable many times with no problems). As stated traffic is a pain like any large city [;)]. Be extra careful with your vehicle while parked at motels even secured parking lots/garages has problems at times, I've had mine broken into myself with no loss....pain in the *. Just remember at night time is when the cockroaches come out so becareful of them prowling [:D]

Atlanta is a cesspool and I wouldn?t stay downtown on a bet. Check out the aquarium and ride the Ferris wheel and then go stay in The suburbs. Alpharetta , Roswell,

If you want a real nice time drive up to the north ga mountains and stay in Dalonaga or blue ridge. Go into town and there are ppl that won?t break your car window for the change in the ashtray ...

Atlanta is for business and flight connections. I would rather vacation in the mountains not the concrete jungle

As for our CC laws, in Ga you have to have a permit to carry concealed or you can open carry on the street but many buildings are anti gun and have signs prohibiting. Some places you have detectors. Like the aquarium

Lots of history in Roswell and good eats too... chippersclub.com. Holler and I will buy a forum member lunch or dinner and chat cold steel

Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

    I agree.

I need to come over and get some chow at your place Roswellnative. When I visit my Dad I say at his old house in Dunwoody maybe 3 miles from you.

Helen Ga is a fun place and only about 1.5 hrs from downtown up Ga 400.

If you go you have got to stop at the Yonah Burger outside Cleveland Ga. When I was a Ranger Instructor it was the place to go when we were doing mountaineering on Mt Yonah.

I forgot about a great BBQ joint in Birmingham AL. It is off I20 and called The Golden Rule BBQ I think its in Irondale AL.

All these places have a website now.

If you like Ametican History ( the War of Northern Aggression )check out the Cyclorama. It was located near the zoo but I believe it was restored and moved to the Buckhead area

I've lived about 40 miles south of Atlanta since 2003 and I avoid going near the place like the plague. But then if you liked the movie the Planet of the Apes then you might enjoy your stay in Atlanta. It would probably be wise to look up the address of a glass company in advance to replace the windows in your car if you spend the night.

The Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel is a good place to eat. The restaurant is on the top floor and you have a good view of the city. I have ate there a couple times.

Is the restaurant in the Peachtree called Pittypats Porch? Picked up the check there when eating with some friends, and my daughter saw the bill and cryed.

If you get a chance go over to Stone Mountain and see a part of history before the blacks and bleeding heart liberals have it removed.

The biggest drive in restaurant in the world is The Varsity, right next to Ga. Tech. I used to go up there all the time when I was a freshman at Tech.

Get a walking dog in the garden and an FO.

I wouldn't go near Atlanta for a free trip, Helen Ga. would be my preference.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

If you want to drive an hour and a half down to Columbus Ga check out the Infantry Museum:

    https://nationalinfantrymuseum.org/

They have lots of guns on display, they even have Audie Murphy's M1 Carbine.

But I wouldn't go there during the holidays to do any white water rafting 'cause it do get crowded. [:D]
