I have cleaned a lot of squid but it didn't look like that when I did it, but most of it was for bait. When I was young I spent every moment of every summer and fall at Wrightsville Beach and usually on Crystal fishing pier which at that time was owned by a Greek family. The Greeks had a grill and served burgers and dogs and such. A couple of times a year squid would pass by the pier and at night the water was thick with them under the lights. A few of us would tie on a snag rig and catch a mess for the Greeks who loved them. They would cook up some for us and that was my first taste of squid. Very good if properly prepared.
