Robo calls - unintended consequences?

Robo calls are a royal pita. And they?ve produced unintended consequences. Whenever I get a call from a number I don?t recognize I think twice about answering and many times just ignore. I?m sure that while I?ve missed a boatload of BS calls, I?ve also missed a couple of important calls.
The other day my wireless remote power switch came apart. While it costs only $13 to replace I figured I?d give the company a call and see if it was covered under the warranty. Left voice mail, jury rigged the remote and forgot about it.
I just received a call from an unknown number. Answered it anyway. It was the remote?s company asking for my mailing address to ship me a new remote for free. Holy cow!

But I don't answer any that I don't recognize the number. And I don't have a voice mail box.
I don't it has affected me much.
I don't answer any others. They can leave a message - or not, if they want to.
I believe, if it is important they will leave a message. When they don't leave a message, I believe I was right.
Same here. If the caller ID says anything I don't recognize, it goes to voice mail. Most of the time they hang up, so nothing missed as far as I'm concerned.
That depends on who the robo call is from. If from a reputable company they will remove you. If not, report them to the do not call people, they are levying fines.
If from a fly by night scammer, well, nothing will stop them short of lead.
The "legit" marketing will share your number they all do. If you do not get it removed, you will get more. I rarely if ever get these calls, but I took care of it from the day I got the new number. Registered on the do not call list, and every call, "Where did you get my number?", "Why did you call, I am on the do not call list?"
"Please remove my number from your list".
Write the number and information about the call down. Report it on do not call.
If they call again, you can get the money from the fine, in some cases up to $5,000. That is your incentive to put a stop to the unwanted calls.
Unfortunately they tell me it does not apply to political solicitations. But I still tell them the same thing.
It is more than a little difficult for them to track faked numbers. A change is coming though.
I am on the do not call list and have reported a bunch of robo calls. Even they say there is currently little they can do to tack the faked numbers. As has been stated, the phone companies could stop it cold, but they lack the will to trade the income for integrity.
That's hard to do when you own your own company though. You miss out on a lot of work that way
If I was calling me, I would answer.
Exactly... you need to answer calls from potential customers...
