Any info on Parkhurst utility trailers?

This outfit in Sadelia, MO has been around since 1946. I bought one of their 5'x8' utility trailers at a farm sale this month. They haven't made utility trailers for decades, just big truck/farm things. It's probably 50 years old and in amaizing shape. I'm interested in payload rating. It has 6 bolt lugs,15" tires, and 5 leaf springs. It's built like a tank - no angle iron frame on it anywhere.

With a single 6 lug axle I would estimate a GVW rating of 2500#-2800#.

I don't have any specific information on that brand of trailer, in fact I have never heard of it, but there are a bazillion brands of trailers out there.

Here is some information from one manufacture. I looks like they are rating their single axle trailers at 2995# GVW.

You should contact them and ask. I bet they'd get a kick out of hearing from you and that their trailer is still serviceable.

Years ago I was taught to figure 500# per lug nut (1 wheel/rim only), 6 lugs = @ 3,000 lbs per axle.......seems it's always been accurate calculating that way but I'm sure some axle makers cuts corners these days to make more money so I recommend double checking to make sure.

5 lug on dexter axles are 3500# 6 lug are either 5000 # or 5200#. That is per axle. Might be a tag on it somewhere.

Current 6 lug axles with 16" rims are usually 5000-5200#. Six lug w/15" rims might be in the 3500-4000# class.
IMHO, for short runs at moderate speed, you can probably just go with the load capacity of the tires.

Sporting that size tire and wheel combo I would bet dollars to doughnuts you have a 3,500 pound rated axle. Please, make sure you run ST tires, specifically made for trailers they are WAY different than car tires.
