this one was a single, one hit jar with the boom sound. No shake,or rolling, just a solid hit. Waiting for the rolling after shock.

Had a 7.1 hit just about a week ago. Had over 100 aftershocks so far. Only felt a couple of those but that 7.1 had us rocking and rolling. It hit about 35 miles from the epicenter was. The day before the 7.1 had a 6.4. That was on the 4th of July.

Now for some science, 2 main types of quakes, one is a side ways slip where the plates move , well, sideways. Thats where you see the road white lines or whatever that have moved and o longer line up. Those produce the rolling and swaying motions you feel.

The other is a up/down slippage of the plates, thats what creates mountains and causes the hard jolts and the booms that some folks hear. The quake that caused all the damage in the LA area a few years ago was that type. It actually raised the mountains around here by 24 inches according to reports. This type tends to cause the most damage to highways, bridges and other structures depending on duration and severity.

I live on a vertical slip fault. Not near - on. The vertical cliff in front of my house is the result. It is way overdue to slip again.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

it was a rated 4.0 shimy shaker centered over Manhatten Mt that you felt Joe. i've had gastric distress that rumbled more than a 4.0.. Seeley Lake to Lincoln Mt area gets those frequently, nothing to worry about.

4.0? Awww... that's cute. Not much of an achiever.
