Berkeley became the first city nationwide to ban the use of natural gas in new low-rise residential buildings in a unanimous vote Tuesday by the City Council. The ordinance, introduced by Councilwoman Kate Harrison, goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020, and phases out the use of natural gas by requiring all new single-family homes, town homes and small apartment buildings to have electric infrastructure. After its passage, Harrison thanked the community and her colleagues ?for making Berkeley the first city in California and the United States to prohibit natural gas infrastructure in new buildings.?
The city will include commercial buildings and larger residential structures as the state moves to develop regulations for those, officials said.
The ordinance allocates $273,341 per year for a two-year staff position in the Building and Safety Division within the city?s Department of Planning and Development. The employee will be responsible for implementing the ban.
?I?m proud to vote on groundbreaking legislation to prohibit natural gas in new buildings,? Mayor Jesse Arregu?n said on Twitter. ?We are committed to the #ParisAgreement and must take immediate action in order to reach our climate action goals. It?s not radical, it?s necessary.?

I wonder if these people wake up every morning thinking what new way can I find to screw with normal people's lives? What stupid stupid stupid thing can I come up with?? I am surprised there aren't a lot of "accidents" among public officials in good old Cali. Or maybe most of the folks there like being treated like a bunch of two year old's home alone being cared for by really stupid 5 year odd's. Such a shame that a beautiful state is being systematically destroyed by people who couldn't run a fast food restaurant much less a state.

WELL, to fight climate change, we can't have coal power plants, and we can't have natural gas power plants, and we certainly don't want nuclear power plants, and to save the birds we can't have solar or wind turbines. Hydro? Oh, no - we're rushing to demolish all those eco-ugly dams, too.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

They will find out when the power fails and its cold outside. Without a gas stove or gas fireplace it gets cold.

Berkeley probably banned wood and coal burning long ago. Shame on these fools.

ONe of the dumbest, most idiotic things ever. Just where do they expect the electricity to come from......lighting?
About 50% of the electricity produced in the USA comes from COAL and some is generated by natural gas.

What a *. Natural gas is cheap way to heat things and get electricity. I wonder if they're afraid berkeley will go up like San Bruno? Old PG&E pipes popping and taking that cancer of a city out. It'll be nice if they took the whole city off the grid. See how long that'll last. Progressive, yeah with their higher than thou attitude. Space aliens (so as not to get confused)/zombie invasion can't come soon enough.

Coming from the same state that said bovine flatulence was a major concern for their air quality, I find Kalifornia to be "The Land of the Lost!"

I really do feel sorry for all of the "normal" people living there!

My response to the often heard comment -

You can't vote someone "out" of office. You have to vote someone "in" office.

If nobody wants to run for office, the incumbent wins by a landslide - one to nothing (assuming they vote for themselves).

What they don't know won't hurt them.

Study Shows Natural Gas, Wind & Solar to be Cheapest Technologies for Generating Electricity
    https://news.utexas.edu/2018/10/25/energy-institute-full-cost-of-electricity-study/

Positive their ban is a "feel good" decision made by folks who are NOT ON TOP OF TECHNOLOGY.

Experimental Texas power plant aims to make electricity cheaper, cleaner
Distinguished from the other industrial sites only by a green leaf on its sign, the demonstration plant has been testing operations for just under a year to prove a power technology that, instead of emitting carbon dioxide, heats it to drive the turbines that make electricity. All but 3 percent of the carbon dioxide is recycled to produce more electricity; the rest can be captured and stored, ready for pipelines to customers in the oil and gas and other industrial industries.

NET Power estimates a combined natural gas cycle produces power at about $44 per megawatt hour, assuming a price of about $2.96 per thousand cubic feet of natural gas. NET Power estimates that 450 of its power plants could replace all the new fossil fuel power plants needed from now until 2040 in the U.S

They sure are busy in Berkeley!

No Natural Gas and No more "Man Holes"

Too bad the libtards don't know that most electricity is produced by NG. I think some of these idiots don't realize that electricity has to be "Produced" in some way either wind, coal, NG, nuke, hydro or solar.....ect I think they may believe it is just laying on the ground and you pick it up.
