HVAC Guys......need help with window AC unit

Hi Folks,
I have a fairly new (less than two years old) window AC unit that is acting weird, and I have no idea where to start to fix it. I'm "semi" capable of working on AC stuff, but I've never touched a window unit, but AC should be AC, right? ;)

Anyway, it runs fine, and puts out cold air fine for about 8 hours, then it starts warming up. I haven't taken the temp at that time yet, but it is definitely warmer after about 8 hours. It *almost* seems like the thermistor, because it seems to take forever to kick back on, but once it kicks on, it will run for quite a while. Compressor seems to run fine when it kicks on.

If I turn it off for a few hours, it'll have cold air when I turn it back on again, for about 8 hours.

I've cleaned it, and it is very clean. It has good air flow, and is not freezing up.

I have AC gauges, but I don't know what refrigerant this unit has in it. I've not taken it out of the window yet, but I have to today.

It only had a year warranty, and I hate to buy another one, as I'm installing a mini-split in that room in about 4 months!

I'm guessing it is low on refrigerant, as weird as it is acting, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Any help is appreciated.

    Freezing up?

    Low on coolant.
I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

Just curious for the future when I have to buy a new air conditioner. What brand and BTU is your unit?

May be a bad circuit board.I worked on a package unit that would quit cooling in the morning and work fine in the late afternoon and night.Someone smarter than me told me to see if it quit when the direct sun was on the unit and started working again when it was in the shade, which was the case.A solder connection in the board had a tiny crack and when it heated up it lost contact, cooled down it regained contact.Replaced the board and the problem went away.

If it works for eight hours it isn't the refrigerant being low.
My guess as yours is that a temperature control is wacky and replacing a board or whatever if you have a model number you can probably look up parts and schematic, have you tried lowering the t stat when it quits cooling to see if it will kick at a lower setting?

They are hardly worth a lot of effort as a new one depending on size is probably a few hundred bucks.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
