Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

I don't know if it's just part of the hype, but from what I've read, supposedly all of the aircraft and carrier shots are real. If true, that alone will put me in the theater to watch it. 8-)

Where did they pull the tomcats out from? The sonic booms are cool. I wonder how long Val took to get ready for the close up?

I liked him in the original. He was good in the MI series. Let?s hope that this movie is better than the Jack Reacher flops, I mean flicks...

    ???
The only Tomcat I saw was in the last shot. The rest looked to be F/A-18 Hornets.

The original film had a ridiculous plotline and backed it up with a weak script. What made the movie a blockbuster were the amazing scenes of flight deck operations which at that time you had to be deployed on a carrier to experience. Fast forward thirty years and there is this thing called YouTube.

Right now you can watch hundreds of hours of flight deck operations in HD taken by the men and women who are actually working on the flight deck. You are there with the ordies as they heft a Mk-82 bomb and attach it to a hardpoint, and then you are on the cat and crawling beneath an aircraft's fuselage to attach the holdback bar. The only thing missing is the smell of JP-5 mixed with steam, and a 30 not wind blowing in you face. Aerial sequences aren't much different. Every squadron in the navy has their own cruise video with amazing footage, and with no computer generated images.

The sequel might be a decent film, but I'm not holding my breath.

    The Tomcat is definitely CGI.

Lots of camera work including cat shots in the back seats of F/A-18 Growlers for scenes where it looks like he is the pilot.

If it ends up being bad, a person could always fire up their computer, and reenact the original. ;):D
