Woodchuck slayer

It must be an up year in the woodchuck cycle. Five of the destructive little suckers so far this month. All in the yard and all within 100 yards of the house. The 17 HMR does a wonderful job. No exit wound and the chuck usually drops right there. Quite often I'll put the corpse in the range of the game cam. So far buzzards, possum, racoons and fox all seem to like woodchuck as a midnight snack. Well not the buzzards, they come during daylight but take the critter away for later. Maybe I'm missing out on a delicacy. Anybody got a surefire, slam dunk gourmet recipe for woodchuck? :D Bob

On second thought maybe not as copious quantities of alcohol would probably be called for to eat it and I'm trying to cut back.

A half grown woodchuck is good eating. Real tender with a delicate flavor. A full grown woodchuck is good eating only if it is eat this full grown woodchuck or go several without anything to eat!!! :D

Very similar to roast beef in texture and taste. They have glands under their front legs that must be removed or the meat will taste bad. Cook them like pot roast.
Get'em before they get too fat as they can be greasy. They are grazers and don't eat just anything like chickens, hogs, and other "stuff" that tastes so good. Never fixed one myself but neighbor did a great job.
Couldn't eat one now since we had one that was a house pet for several years, would be like eating one of the family.
By the way they make good pets and are very clean.

What they said above. Young ones are darn good IF you get those glands out. Roast or braise them.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I use a 22K Hornet and I cook them in an old fashion pressure cooker.

    Sweet and tender.
