That?s a good deal for Democrats and a big retreat from the Trump administration, which called for $150 billion in spending cuts to domestic programs as a condition for raising the debt ceiling. This bill includes half of that ? $77.4 billion in spending cuts, most of which wouldn?t be enacted for nine years, by which point Congress is likely to overturn them. Overall, it gives a little to everyone: Democrats get more money for domestic programs, Republicans get more funding for the military and the United States would avert defaulting on its loans. The biggest loser: People concerned with the national debt ? which included many Republicans.

There are a few Republicans concerned about the national debt.

    Very few.

Concern about the national debt would mean meaningful reductions in Defense Spending, Social Security Spending and Medicare/Medicaid Spending.

If they are not on board with all three of these, any claimed concern about the National Debt false.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

Come on serf, you can't be surprised by any of this silly nonsense. This crap has been going on for decades, they decry the potential calamity of defaulting on our obligations and suddenly, at the last minute, the 11th hour, they saved the country (lots of sarcasm!!!) from disaster. Anyone with half a brain can see all they're doing is kicking the can down the road because they don't have the guts to tackle the real problems facing the country.

Politicians as a general rule have no idea about the concept of a budget. When you and I make a budget we figure out what we have to spend and divide it among the things we need. Hopefully we have a little left over to save for retirement or a rainy day. Politicians on the other hand don't have to save for retirement and see no need to have a little left over to save. Their attitude is that it ain't their money so who cares. It doesn't matter which party. Recently we have had both Bushs' wars and Obamas shovel ready jobs for example. Trump has not made a big financial screw up yet but can't seem to control the House and Senate gimme, gimme, me too attitude. I fear we ain't seen nothing yet. Todays fiscally irresponsible generation are entering politics and also empowering the old socialists like Bernie. Bob

PresidentTrump is not draining the swamp he just has a different attitude toward who gets the most. With his Tax cuts and this new suspension of the debt ceiling then he can get reelected without having to raise the spectrum of having a sound government over giveaways to favor his support base.

It doesn't matter to him! He boasted in his 8 years in office he would balance the national budget and start paying down our Debt!

Instead, he will increase the national debt to over 26 trillion dollars! It's the same old song and dance with different players! Hei s a liar like the rest of them! And we are the stupid suckers who believe him.Democrats or Republicans nothing but a clan of deceivers.

Over 10 years, Trump's budget would add more than $7.9 trillion to the national debt.

Balance the federal budget 'fairly quickly'

"It can be done. ... It will take place and it will go relatively quickly. ... If you have the right people, like, in the agencies and the various people that do the balancing ... you can cut the numbers by two pennies and three pennies and balance a budget quickly and have a stronger and better country."
