Identify this forend latch

I would like to know what type of forend latch and which guns it was used on. The top is marked"PATD.MAR.26.1878. The bottom has a serial # 144849. IAny info will be appreciated.

    Parker Brothers Model VH Side by Side Double Barrel Hammerless Shotgun

    It's identical - but I wonder how many others used the same patent in their own shotguns and whether Parker designed it or licensed it for use from the inventor

    mrmike I thank you for the info. In your pic the date looks like it might be 1873. I thought mine was 1878. Can you clarify the date? Thanks

    Produced between 1905 and 1927 - typical template should include Twin ivory beads on the matte concave rib with "PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. C.T. U.S.A. VULCAN STEEL." flanked by arrows, "gauge indicator # ie a 12 or 28" and "00" on the underside of the lug and the "JG" marking of master barrel maker Jim Gary on the barrel flats. 2-1/2 inch chambers, with extractor. Dished water table with patent markings, "PARKER BROS" on either side, and zig-zag border engraving with scroll accents. Checkered pistol grip stock with standard or beavertail forearm, which was first offered in 1924, stockade fences engraved latch marked "PATD.MAR.26.1878", hard rubber Parker grip cap - initial shield escutcheon on the underside and an unmarked solid rubber recoil pad on cut butt - Length of pull over pad is 14 1/2 inches (62% of total production)...

    I stole the pic - thought it displayed an 8 at the end - per above referenced data yes I am positive / sure / certain...

    Variations and grades and models and options and action sizes vary greatly over course of production but do follow a pattern as well

    Checked a dozen or so sources and I have the hardware from a 28 gauge VH model here somewhere and the latch matches yours...

    It was one of those "oh I have one of those here somewhere" moments

    I have essentially an entire 28 gauge minus the receiver and at some point researched the proofs and markings...

    Memory is an odd phenomena.
