Forge and other 1911 guys-?

Watching a thread on a reloading forum about COAL, crimp and bullet setback. Someone questioned about the bullet contacting the lands in the barrel.
So I went out in my room and did a little trial. I seated a fmj bullet incrementally until it just would load into a Colt 1911 magazine. I found that the dummy round would still ?plunk? into my test barrel.
Based on the components of this test, may I conclude that if a bullet of this type is seated deep enough to fit the magazine, it will not be long enough to touch the rifling?

it all depends on bullet 'profile', a semi-wadcutter or 'stubby' hollow point may be a different story.

well yeah, that's exactly what you did. "if it's just long enough to fit in this magazine, it's too short to hit the lands (plunk test) in this barrel".

and if it does hit the lands (fails the plunk test) it's not going to fit in the magazine.

says nothing about other magazines in other guns with other barrels.

I don?t load many FMJ?s. Mostly lead semi wadcutters. I seat them to just below the shoulder, so it?s not an issue.
