Wow, great outcome to a bad situation!

I think a lot of people don't realize that one can easily get "way out" yet today in the Inter Mountain/Rocky Mountain region. Way out to 100+ years ago in terms of accessing modern conveniences/medical services. Still a very real chance one might have to "cowboy up" at the drop of a hat.

At first the story started to sound like he wasn't as bad off as the responders were led to believe, but by the time you get to the bottom, you see the full extent:
"Harrison was diagnosed with nine broken ribs, two compression fractures in his spine and a hemopneumothorax ? both blood and air in his chest cavity."
Fanatic collector of the 10mm auto.

They did the best they could with what they had and got him off the mountain in good enough shape to survive. He would have died up there if not moved and may have died if the guides had tried bringing him down without the contrived braces. The guides made a good decision to stay put and the responders did a good job with their effort a plain old making do. The injured man's attitude helped a lot too.
