Ruger Bisley Range Report

I bought an early production Ruger Bisley,5.5 barrel,44 mag a while back and put it in the safe. With the short barrel and excuse for rear sights I didn't have much hope for a tack driver, but I was wrong. With 250 grain cast gas check bullets loaded a little warm but not hot,we kept moving targets until I could make 2 liter soda bottles filled with water explode out to 50 yards. That may not be a great feat for some, but as bad of a pistol shot as I am I think most of the credit goes to using a great gun. Do all these Bisleys shoot that well or did I get the exception?

My 4 5/8 one was purely inaccurate. Eventually found a new home.

I have had some that really shoot good and some that were OK.

I find Ruger 41 mags are really good shooters.

I have a 4 5/8" gun that is very accurate.

It's unusual to find a Blackhawk of any flavor that won't shoot well - but there are some. IIRC, it can sometimes be traced to the bore being "pinched" by a too-tight receiver right at the forcing come. That short "squozed down" section ruins bullet fit down the rest of the bore. I think it was Dave Clements, the master Ruger 'smith who told me that.

I never found the Bisley grip to suit me, perhaps because I have small hands. Dunno, but the original small frame Blackhawk always fit me best.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.
