amazing what they are coming up with .
one eye doc told me they are starting / experimenting / doing ? complete lens transplants but in early stages so they can start form new on any corrections

I just had my right eye done 2 weeks ago the left 2 weeks before that
waiting on them to settle in and a finial check up
I will still need glasses having RK done 25 years ago screw my chance to have them completely corrected with a new implant lens
I had fast growing cataracts with in just a few months my left eye was really just letting in light and very little details was getting scary thank goodness my right eye was still holding up well enough to get by and drive ( limited my self to local ) until I got them corrected

Science just come up with the new eye drop that dissolves cataracts

When it comes to these NEW medical miracle procedure's, I opt to wait a year or two and let the "Guinea pigs" get the "cure" done first! :) I consider my eyesight to be the most important sense I possess. I would find life not worth living without it!

Had my left eye done a year ago. It's painless and almost risk free (assuming a good doctor). I have a touch of astigmatism in both eyes, so I wear glasses now. Doc says the right eye has a small cataract but because I'm still 20/20 in that eye, he isn't touching it. Yet. I'm betting that I'll have that one done next winter. I'm starting to see a tiny bit of degradation in that eye - can hardly see a golf ball at 200 yards anymore.

Pick a good doctor and just do what he/she says. Cataract removal is one of if not THE most common surgery done today. They have it down pat, and while you might be scared spitless of it the first time - as I was! - it's truly a non-event. And you will love the result.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

If it works out it would be very beneficial to areas of the world were surgery isn't an option. Of course if it worked as well as surgery it could replace it. But cataract surgery is, for a great percentage, very successful and with having corrective lenses placed many people see better than they did before cataracts.

Just one question. Do they knock you out for the surgery? I am so eye sensitive, they would have to knock me out! I cannot touch my own eyeball. Contact lenses have never been considered and I've been wearing glasses for near sightedness since the 3rd grade.

I had my main right eye shooting eye done about year ago. It was getting foggy due to a cataract. Triad eye center. I did a walk in, first time took about 4 hours for check-up few days of using pre surgy eye drops per a prescription about $40 then next week about 2 hours inside. They put you out and you will not know when they fool with your eyeball. Couple weeks you can go to a eye specialist and get glasses after one check-in to view your eyeball. Just call them and they can give you the preliminarys of whats involved. Some people get referred by their optomerist. If you don't have any insurance cost is about $3000 per eye I think.

Medicare with a supplement. Think maybe my final cost was around $100 instead of $3000 if you have no insurance coverage. Eye is like new. I can see good through that eye with no glasses but I still wear glasses due to my left eye and I also use my glasses as eye protection. (going through the woods in dark, etc) If not for glasses I might not even have a right eye due to limbs, mower rocks, etc over the years. Glasses have saved my eyes numerous times.

I can almost see like Superman. ;)

I've gotta agree with that statement big time!! Over the coarse of most of my entire life, would bet those ugly glasses have saved my eyes many times over!

Even if I was to get work done on the eyes to make me see 20\20 without specs, I would still wear my oversized lens aviator style glasses! Not only do they protect and serve, but they do a fair job of hiding those suitcase sized bags under my eyes! 8-)

I'm extremely eye sensitive, also. But the operation was a non-event. As mentioned, they get you pretty relaxed chemically beforehand, and they deaden your eye such that you see a blurry light, sorta feel them fussing around your face - and then it's over.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I pretty much ended up with 20/20 uncorrected from arms length out. I now have to use "readers," close in. That is fairly normal from what I hear. (I had replacement Silicone lenses installed as well as other Cataract work done.) They were tuned/calibrated for arms length on out. (Prescription/corrective.)

I use the cheap dollar store readers around the house, but if you look online you can find the wrap around sunglasses with the old half moon readers in the bottom, I got a pair of amber and a pair of yellow to hunt with, for $12.99 apiece, the amber are nice in the truck as it clears up the instrument cluster which is about arms length, and the yellow to see sights on rifle when hunting. I wear the amber almost everywhere when I am outside, the help greatly when golfing to find my golf balls....... ;)

Apparently this differs with each surgeon. Had both done earlier this year and I was knocked out completely both times. Still strictly a non-event. Would rather have this type of surgery than have my teeth cleaned. Only thing - had to have someone (in my case, my wife) drive me home from the hospital afterwards.

Had an eye exam a few months ago thru the VA choice program. My vision seemed blurry and eye glasses didn't provide a clear, sharp 'images. The doc did the exam and said I had the beginning of cataracts but nothing to worry about right now.

He Rx a new set of eyeglasses and can see much better now.

Just how 'developed' do the cataracts have to be before they will remove them?

    :?:

Notice the article states "the method has yet to be tested on humans" so sure ain't gonna be an option for a few years, if ever.

told me they have to be a 4 outa 5 not sure what the number means, but doc also told me he could do them anytime I wanted only the insurance wouldn't pay till it was ripe, hence the 4 outa 5. and they progress/grow at different rates with different people, but mine only went less than 2 years from first diagnosis till they were bad enough to take off......

l had a cataract for maybe 15 yrs. Doc kept wanting to remove it, but l put it off til the last moment. l was a bit scared the surgery might not be successful because it was my ONLY eye. Finally retiring 3 yrs ago l had the surgery shortly thereafter. l got a Torex implant to help eliminate astigmatism. Not the very best one but @ $3k lt was all l felt like spending... Now l don't need glasses to drive...Use them to read and do the puter tho... Having only ONE EYE makes glasses mandatory for SAFETY ;)

Or at Wal-Mart when they have a price roll-back and you have a coupon and it's done by a robot that is programmed by the
electronic section teenage nerd (who is a dork) just for your eyeball size.

Most likely it is HOW DEVELOPED is directly related to your medical insurance coverage is and also your bank account and credit rating.
I noticed these type things had a direct impact on medical care when I was younger with no Insurance coverage and a poor if any credit rating  .
