Herter's ammo

Herter's ammo (Cabelas house brand) is pretty powerful. when I did some testing on a few different range fodder FMJ, the top dog in a long barrel (G22, G35) was Federal American Eagle 165 grain, but the surprise was that Herter's 180 grain beat it in a short barrel (G27, G23). and there's not a whole lot of difference in any case.
I tested the Herter's Target variety. from what I hear, it's made by Winchester. the Herters Select (small black box) was made by S&B but that may have changed. they both say part# HRT40B but have entirely different UPC codes.
I didn't test the Herters Select to see how it stacks up, and I didn't evaluate how clean they burn, accuracy, etc. but there you have it.

IIRC, Sellier and Bellot makes Herters rifle and handgun ammunition.
I bought some 7.62 x 39 some years back. Seemed to work well.
Not a Made in USA product, however, and I stopped buying foreign made ammo a long time ago.

Almost certain it used to be imported.
I could be wrong. It has happened before.

what has changed since then, is they have added a Target Grade with a completely different box, completely different UPC code, and the same part # HRT40B.
Select Grade was made in the Czech Republic by S&B and it said so right on the box.
this new Target Grade does not say on the box who makes it or where. it does say USA on the headstamp.
I have two boxes of each right now I'm looking at.
I heard the Target Grade is made by Winchester. the box and the styrofoam ammo tray inside it do look like something Winchester would produce, and nothing like the packaging of S&B or Select, which are smaller, of a different cardboard and a different plastic tray.
the Select Grade might have moved over to Winchester also but I haven't examined a recent box.

RCC does have brass, so in a way it is still around.
like said above, the Target is the hottest range fodder along with American Eagle. the S&B was second-rate. if you want the hottest of all FMJ, there are others I tested but they aren't so easy to come by.
(still, does not address other qualities like clean burning, accuracy, etc)
same writing in French on one side
same cardboard, same styrofoam tray, same style of numbers, both say K6780
gratutious glam shot
Select and S&B are different.
this is an older box of Select. I don't have a newer box to see if it still says made by S&B.
note that the Target and Select have the same part number, HRT40B.
headstamps (L-R): Winchester, Target, S&B, Select
