When God calls

Ben, a guy I knew that was 82 years old, was still very active working part time at Wal-mart assembling mowers, grills, and so forth in season and being a greeter at other times, had a stroke while driving, hit a tree and passed away.

Having had family and friends that lingered on for ages in nursing homes or suffered terribly with cancer, I remarked to someone that ?Ben sure lucked out.? She thought that was a terrible thing to say.

If he died doing what he liked doing and enjoyed what he liked doing, then you can say he went out with his boots on.

When God calls there is no such thing as luck, just part of the plan.

No lingering death, and no goodbyes. I'd like to drop over dead in a bar, preferably in a foreign country. I've told my sister numerous times that if I die while aboard not to waste any money shipping my body home. After the locals take my wallet and my shoes, they can do as they please with my carcass.

major topic of discussion among the Romans. can you consider someone who has died, to have been better off than if he had lived? there were many more examples of pain and woe coming after someone had reached the zenith of their life. the conclusion was that a premature death was not always a bad thing, considering the usual demise that comes later.

so here we're talking about Ben, who apparently lived somewhat satisfactorily into old age, yet died prematurely, compared to others who did not die and only continued into a living death.

it's not a terrible thing to say that he lucked out. having a stroke and dying in a car crash is not something to wish for, but, he had the good fortune to not experience the alternative. I'll bet there are many who are experiencing that alternative that wished they had Ben's luck.

go in my sleep or just fall over in the yard dead ( not driving and possibly take some family with me ) have seen too many family and friends die suffering from cancer .or dementia suffer for months / years , no way I want to go that way

    true story
when I was 48 I had by-pass surgery , for some time after my wife would not ;););) with me she told me she was so scared I would die during the process . I told her that would be a great thing for both us I could think of no better way to go as a man . and although maybe a bit unsettling for her
I understand but .... ... OMG the guys would line up for a date with a woman that killed there husband with sex :D:D:D

Fellow I once worked with told me how he wanted to go and that was:

Sitting in a bar with a drink in front of him and a cigarette in one hand with his arm around a beautiful girl and chatting with friends.

He did pass away.......... sitting in a bar with a drink in front of him and a cigarette in one hand with his arm around a beautiful girl and friends nearby.

He suffered a brain aneurysm and the doc said he was dead before he hit the floor.

I'm pretty sure my death will bring only celebration. I'm good with that.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I hope to die in my sleep like my grandpa did, unlike the passengers in the backseat of his car when they went off that cliff. :D
