IN New York a High School Football Coach was suspended for violating a rule in that county.

What was it?

cussing?
hitting a player?
spiting tobacco juice on the field?
having an illegal player?
Mooning the other team?
wearing a MAGA hat?

Nope

Running up the score by more than 42 points

My high school was a football school. The baseball team was decent, the basketball team was a joke (they won a total of three games in three years) and the other sports....well, no one cared about anything but football. In the final game of the regular season, we ran up a 36-0 score by halftime. Because the team had a tough playoff schedule, the coach kept most of the starters on the bench in the second half to rest them for the playoffs. Parents were screaming bloody murder. College scouts were in attendance, and parents wanted their kids in the game and running up a big score for the scouts. On Monday, letters and phone calls poured in, and the coach, who was the winningest football coach in the history of our school district (he might still be), took some heat. Several members of the team did get football scholarships and one, Norm Johnson, who I had several classes with, went on to have a successful pro career. Bottom-line: in sports, no matter what a coach does, someone won't like it.

    I agree with that ruling.
It was meant to allow non starting players to get into the game.
High school sports have degraded in almost college hype and blood thristy ness.
Make a rule that EVERY one plays. If a kid dresses for the game ,he gets onto the field.

I thought about this. What was he supposed to do? The object is to win. The bigger the win, the bigger the winners!

If he stopped the game because the Snowflakes were such crummy players, the Snowflake would have had their little feelings hurt.

If he told his team to back off so the Snowflake team could score more points, the Snowflakes would had their little feelings hurt.

What if he had sent his best players over to the Snowflake team to help them get their score up? Great sportsmanship but the Snowflakes would have had their little feelings hurt.

What if the coach put in his 3rd string, and the cheerleaders, and the goth club and they stomped the raisins out of the Snowflakes? Yep, you got it, the Snowflakes would have gotten their little feelings hurt.

As a society, we are doomed!
Winners settled this country. Winners made this country the greatest that has ever existed.
And now we are simply turning it over to THE LOSERS!!!

I take some consolation by saying I am old and shuffeling towards the big exit.
But what about my grand children?
I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

While I disagree with the suspension I also disagree with the coaching.. the only way other kids get better is with playing time. He should have rotated in his lesser experienced players for playing time also reducing possible injuries to 1st string

Maybe we should just get rid of wins and loss records, tourneys, and state rankings. Just give both teams participation awards.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

In HS I played in game against a team that the year before had crooked refs.

At half-time coach told the starters to sit down, the reserves would take it from there. Score was 32-0

    final score was 66-6.

The reserves got the bit in their mouth and it was off to the races.

    sometimes it just happens

I come from a coaching family plus all my Dad's friends were coaches. The whole time I was a kid we had football coaches in our basement drinking beer! The most successful football coach anywhere around that area (NW Ohio) had a total of over 300 wins when he retired. 300 wins!! That is rarified atmosphere!!

Bucky's philosophy was, get ahead by 2 TD's, second string goes in. Ahead by 3 TD's, third string goes in. Bucky won and won and won! Part of why he won so much was he never had to rebuild, he always had kids with a lot of playing time coming up. Bucky didn't rebuild, Bucky reloaded!!

Its all about winners and winning. Consider the psychology. Winners are successful.

Stomp the other teams into whiny little slobber buckets, without mercy. Put them in their place.

The next game will be easier, and the next, and the next....
The winners will become more confident and accomplish even more.

Someone has to run the major corporations and the government...and someone has to make the BigMacs and walk the dogs.

So now you can only win by 42 points with the first string in Jeez
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
