My dad owned hundreds of cars...

I am not exaggerating- I would say on any given day he owned at least 5 cars at the same time and very few cars made it more than a year or two.

There were 14 different models sold by Ford in 1957- He owner all 14 of them. Mustangs, Chargers, Chevelles, Jeeps, Chryslers, Lincolns, Toyota Supras & MR2?s- whatever you could imagine made from 1947 until 2010- he owned them all.

A few notable daily drivers when I was a kid were a 70 AMX 4 speed, a Dodge Dakota convertible pickup, a purple Dodge conversion van (he had a few conversion vans), a red foxbody Mustang GT with a 5 speed, a Merkur XR4TI, a few exotic German and Italians, and so many others..
He liked bikes and they would come and go too, but not like cars.

Anyway- here is a Doug Wilson car thread- with some real GB celebrity?s from the old days, although I am sure there are dozens more Doug Wilson car threads on GB through the years. Cheers.

He had an addiction. Everyone who is a serious collector gets caught up in the mania. Collections can be anything. However some of us get caught up in the fact we love about anything that lures us to it. The thrill is the chase to obtain what one seeks out. It is also placing the rare item in the right home and looking at the joy on the face of the buyer. Nothing but nothing is more satisfying . I ask only one thing of them.. if they do decide to sell I get first dibs to purchase it back. I think the most classic cars at one time I had was 13 Corvettes, 4 Chevelles, 2 Oldsmobiles, and a Boss Mustang. All of those are long gone. Some of those cars were perfect, some needing restoration, however the buyers sometime want projects to finish the way they want the car . When we moved to SC I had gotten out of classics cars, but the addiction hit hard when I seen how cheap they were here and how nice the bodies were and within a year was buying heavily and even exported some. That was well before folks here knew what they had and the valuation. It didn't take long when an auction company came to the Charlotte Motor Speedway and cars started bring huge money that cars slowly started getting more expensive. Your Dad loved cars and the folks around them. If I had ran across him face to face I guarantee we would have talked for hours.

I miss your Dad too Dave. There are a lot of names on that thread that I miss. Earl was one in a million. I've forgotten who had the 188 MPH Audi, he was a hoot too.

Yep. A lot of names in that thread that we don't hear from any more.
    Wonder what happened to Grumpygy?

Warbirds, how did you pull up a thread from 9 years ago? I thought all of that stuff was lost in the change-over to the new forum format?

Nobody knows what became of grumpy. He disappeared around Christmas time last year. IIRC he was driving to California to spend Christmas with his son, He made a post somewhere along the way, and as far as I know that's the last time we heard from him.

As far as the old posts go, they're still there.
