It seems that A.I. robot carriers are cheaper to use now on the docks here in The USA! Look for friction to manifest soon! I wonder if they are willing to take a pay cut to keep working? Probably too late for that!

I don?t think we should in principle remain inefficient for the sake of increased cost and increased process time.
Isn?t the flip side of this coin we (The USA) would be able to reduce our costs when exporting goods? Which in turn could improve US manufacturing imports because our products become more price competitive?
The port of Baltimore just spent $500,000 to buy a crane simulator to train new operators.

I remember when my father was out of work for 2 months because of his 2 feet being run over by a fork lift's tires. {not his fault}.
Strange things started to happen......
Every day a truck would stop at moms and dads house. A case of eggs would be placed on the front porch one day, then a case of apples, one day a case of carrots, One day a case of tomatoes.....every day something, some food item would "appear" at our house.
"it fell off the back of a truck" wasn't just a saying. It was a way of life.
How about the shoe cobbler, the brakeman and the train caboose, long gone too.
We have enough gun laws, what we need is IDIOT control.

It's much different now with A.I. and the exponential growth of formalize knowledge.Even white collar graduates who cannot excel in mathematics or engineering will be sidelined as useless managers and also become displaced from gainful employment. All the profits made by using smart machines will go to the top 1%. More than likely common people will have no self-worth and be useless eaters. It's going to be a disaster for life as we know it.
Even the military complex will be making big cuts by needing less manpower to drive any vehicle by land ,air,sea or outer space. Going to Mars is a pipe dream and starting a civilization there is nothing but window dressing stupid conceptions of the future.

I would guess the numbers of longshoremen lost to A.I. will be less than that lost to containerization.
We have switched from 100% manual machining 20 years ago to less than 10%+ now. Over that time period we have tripled our workforce and are putting out 15 to 20 times the production.
High dollar repetitive jobs are the low hanging fruit of automation, which is all this is.
Automation is not A.I. At least not the A.I. every chicken little fears.

Right you are. In 1960 we got our milk delivered 3 days a week in Atlanta by Mathis Dairy.
And in that year, I was a paper boy for the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
