glad to see they were used as intended and not safe queened, if they are authentic even the real world price would be out of my price range.

Why am I so leery of things like that? Six pictures won't do it and Winchester would have to be involved for a serious purchaser, imo.
At least he will take installments.

I think he pulled it out of his behind, but you never know. While totally cool, and if they are authentic they will bring a handsome price for sure. But a million and three quarters? Well I don't know about that.........

    Extra holes in the receiver.

    :lol::lol:

Seriously though that is a lot of cake for 2 guns. I think I would split them up and sell them individually and I would try to provide more provenance maybe through some "Experts" or from the Cody museum.

Nice looking old rifles though and I too am glad they were out there hunting.

I'd be interested, but I'm currently locked in a bidding war over Dale Earnhardt's lawnmower. The guy I'm bidding against already has Dale Sr.'s edger, so I can't allow him to complete the set.

1.7 million bucks, and provides a whopping 8 photographs.

I have no clue what they'd actually sell for, but that sure seems way overboard. I'd think it'd be a long shot at half that price but what do I know? I would say that I would have tried contacting Winchester first to see if they were interested as well as get a few Winchester expert opinions documented as well. For all we know, they could have recycled the serial numbers though the proof steel language on the barrel definitely looks 30's.

Your voice of reason/rationality, completely/totally intrudes on this auction.

    WTH, is wrong with you?

Sorry, I'll try to refrain myself in the future. ;)

I find it surprising that Winchester would have sold the first model 70.

I am with Mike on this one . Something this important just doesn?t end ups on GB. Also can?t believe that Winchester let the very first produced rifle out the door . Seem like a lot of the story doesn?t make sense. Would have to have a heck of a lot more info to even consider bidding on them ,assuming I was that rich

I was going to place a bid but then noticed that they're both chambered for .30-06. Pfffttt!
Had they been chambered .270 Winchester I'd own 'em. ;)

Real good chance rifles like that went to a high ranking person in the Winchester circle, maybe president or design engineer.
I have a pair of 9422's that have very low numbers with a letter from previous owner, he was the design engineer that worked on the development of the rifles and later became CEO of the company.
Nice rifles but the price is way too high. My 2 cents.

Even if the pedigree could be locked down without a doubt, I can?t imagine how much money I would have to have in order to spend 1.7 million on two rifles. Run of the mill bolt actions no less.

Honestly- If I could drop 1.7 MILLION on the two rifles I could probably afford to buy Winchester as a company in whole.
