Poachers and Trespassers

I caught a Trespasser this morning in a tree stand on my property. He was hunting with a crossbow no orange. He also had a handgun, it looked like an XD.
I was armed with a USP 45 I have come to really like and my 2 dogs.
I let him know he was on my property, which is posted and easy to see its posted. I told him he was required to wear hunter orange even in a tree stand and I told him I didn't think it was legal to have a handgun while bow hunting(I am not sure if its gun season here in NC yet). I also told him that hunting on public land(He was about 200yds from some) was restricted on Sunday.
You can see my house from where he was with the leaves down. I knew someone was in the woods because his truck was parked on the road. I went out and just started looking around and found him in about 20 min. I am sure he saw me 1st but he never said a word. He knew he was wrong.......
He came down from his stand and argued with me a little so I just pulled out my phone and told him I wasn't going to call the law but the more you talk instead of get you sh*t packed up and gone the more I am prone to call them.
He packed up and I told him if I ever saw him again I was calling the law and getting him charged with armed trespass.
I got his lic number and I have 2 good photos of him on my game camera I probably should call the law anyway but I don't feel like dealing with the hassle.

As far as burning me out, I doubt it he didn't look the type. He knew he was wrong though.
This is probably the 10th time I have run off trespassers and I have had at least 3 kill deer on my property with bows.
There are 2 guys who have my permission to hunt on or cross through my place to get to public lands you cannot get to without a boat or crossing a fairly deep creek. I called them and asked if they knew the guy(He drove a Green Dodge 2009 P/U) neither did.
Here in Indiana you can carry a side arm while bow hunting provided you have a carry permit, you can't use it on deer unless it's hand gun season and it meets criteria. You can also carry a sidearm if you are hunting with it and it meets the criteria (cartridge, barrel length etc) and it is legal for that season. Archery season basically runs through the course of all the seasons, so you could archery hunt and still have a hunting sidearm with you as long as it's a legal season for the sidearm and you have a license that covers it.
So he may not have been breaking any rules by carrying the handgun while archery hunting. Except, of course, the trespassing and hunting without permission, which kind of trumps the rest anyway.
I found this so If he has a CCP he was legal:
Effective Oct. 1, new North Carolina regulations allow archery hunters "to carry, but not hunt with, a concealed handgun with valid concealed carry permit or an open carry handgun, as long as it is not in conflict with any other regulations in that jurisdiction." The change is not reflected in the 2011 North Carolina Hunting Regulations Digest, as it was printed before the law was passed.
I found the Crossbow regs too:
Crossbow Regulations in North Carolina
Update on October 2015: minimum crossbow draw weight allowed has been reduced from 150 to 100 lbs. A great change, as it opens up hunting possibilities to owners of older compound crossbows, many of which are below 150 lbs. Happy shooting!!
Crossbows have been legal for hunting in North Carolina since August 1rst, 2010 during any season in which bow and arrows are permitted. In regard to deer, during any open archery, gun, or muzzleloader season it is permissible to use crossbows. Crossbows may be used to harvest any other game animal, game bird, and/or nongame animal which has a season.
It is unlawful to take migratory game birds with a crossbow on Sundays.
Regardless of impairment, any license exempt or properly licensed hunter is legally permitted to use a crossbow in North Carolina.
Crossbows must have a minimum draw weight of 100 pounds.
Bolts must be with fixed broadheads no less than 7/8 of an inch wide. Mechanically opening broadheads must be no less than 7/8 of an inch wide when in the open position. These may be used for harvesting deer; bear; wild turkey; and/or wild boar.
Blunt style bolts may be used to harvest birds and small animals. Examples are squirrels; rabbits; grouse; pheasants; and quail.
It is unlawful to use bolts which are barbed; poisoned; drugged; or equipped with explosives to harvest any type of game.
It is no longer necessary to obtain a pistol permit for purchasing a crossbow in North Carolina
I know when I 1st moved here in the early 90's and again in 2000 you had to have a disability to hunt with a crossbow, I guess that is not the case and you can hunt with one throughout the season.
I know the guy who lives down the road about a mile hunts with one and says it kills very cleanly.
Here is where I am going to get flamed;
I don't think you should be allowed to use a crossbow unless you are disabled. To me again its like inline muzzle loaders I get the idea but I think it is stretching the intent.
Just my opinion and its worth what you payed for it
I had quite a pleasant time reading this inbred son of a jackal all of my thoughts about his actions and his illegal hunting methods. When I finally ran out of breath the dude said nothing and made a b line for his truck and was gone. I took care of the deer but it just didn't taste as good as if I had dropped it myself. Also had several different confrontations with trespassers on this property during hunting seasons and mushroom times. The area there is a land where the inhabitants surrounding the place seem to think they can tread anywhere they please.
Certainly share info on the Cretan with neighbors and friends if not local game warden.
Well my truck was off the road with the flashers and a Deputy stopped and asked if I had trouble. I told him what I was doing and he got and helped me.
I told him about the trespasser and told me that next time to call them. He said the guy could have shot me or my dogs. I told him I would. This deputy patrols the area where I live and I have spoken to him before.
Him: Nope.
Me: Are you sure you aren't lost?
Him: No, I'm not!
Me: I don't hear well, son. Did you say you are not lost?
Him: That's right! I ain't lost!
Me: That's too bad, 'cause you are trespassing on my land!
Him: Mmnph, gijk blt cddg.....some BS story.
Me: Let me tell you about my backhoe. Up here in these woods I can dig a grave in 12 minutes...a little less in the daylight.

That is the way I feel also. Take care of it at as low a level as can be done, once it gets in the system there is telling what is going to happen.
I never refused anyone that would ask to hunt or fish because I always appreciated when I got permission when I went to Western Kansas to hunt pheasants. I have had people park in gates, steal field corn, fish, hunt and drive across wet fields starting coyotes. Simple consideration and courtesy seems very difficult.
Another time a friend said he knew a great squirrel woods. We had just got out of the truck when someone showed up to ask what we were doing there. My friend knew who owned the property but didn't really have permission at all from anyone.
