I saw the biggest Eastern White tail deer I have ever seen in Person.
He was hanging out in the woods behind my house maybe 35 yards from by back deck. I have a 50x100' area directly behind my house that is fenced for the dogs and they were going nuts barking at this Buck. He was just inside the woodline and he was snorting right back at the dogs.
I went out on the deck and it was about dusk(1700 or so) but still shooting light. I figured he was hurt so I got my binos and looked him over, I couldn't believe what I saw It was a 12 point buck with antlers an easy foot out side his ears and 20-24" high and they were as symmetrical as could be.
He walked around some while I was looking at him and he looked fine, I thought he may have been hit by a car as I have had to put injured deer down several times in the last 10 years living here.
I called one of the guys who hunts my land on the phone and told him about the Buck and told come over and shoot this thing it was a trophy. He couldn't get to my place in time.
So I watched him just hang out. He wasn't afraid of me or the dogs but I didn't set them on him and kept them inside the fenced area.
He hung out for about 2 hours then walked down to the state land. I checked my 2 game cameras and he wasn't on either so he must have walked in from my front yard and when he left he didn't follow the game trail to the creek.
I took the dogs and checked the area this morning and he left a scrape below a cedar tree about 75 yds from my house. I figure he will back because there are a whole lot of does that hang out here I seen 15-20 every day in my yard and the woods behind my house. I have a tube corn feeder that I fill every other day.

I say load up and it's time for Ol' Sam to start hunting again!!
At least get us a damn picture!!
Go out in the yard and rattle antlers (chop kindling?) Walk bent over and wear a brown jacket. Grunt and snort (works better with a call) and keep your camera ready (or rifle).
If you don't take your rifle make sure someone videos from the kitchen window so we can witness "the breeding".

I have my camera ready in my sunroom. I hope he comes back so I can some pics because he was beautiful.
As far as the rut he was full on in rut. Grunting and stomping his foot. His neck was swollen up.
If he had come close to me I would have shot him to pieces with my USP 45 hunting lic or no, I can guarandamntee that partner.

People used to hunt these with lanterns and nets. The practical joke is actually steeped in reality.
