Here in NC the state controls the sale of Alcohol/Strong Sprits for some reason. You can get Beer and wine in the grocery store but Whisky is controlled.

Well anyway I was getting a bottle Scotch and I saw they had Even Williams Egg Nog! I got 2 bottles, the big ones 8-)

Just had a small glass......................Very good. I am not too much of a Bourbon drinker but I don't turn my nose up to it as long as you are buying but this stuff is good.

Anyone else here drink it?

ABC store... Haven't been to one since the last time I was in Washington State. 2007? Those places were depressing from what I remember. I imagine they're like methadone clinics? Say what is the cut off percent of the booze from being sold in a grocery store? I remember the boozed nog is what 25%?

I have yet to find the pre-mixed boozed nog I like but I do like the convenience of them living in the pantry.

The way I like my egg nogg is with Brandy.

Seems the older I get the holiday mix gets richer and creates digestive problems similar to what I get from KFC or Taco Bell. So, when I do drink brandy and nogg, I only do so close to my home facilities!

You have to wonder what they use in that bottled stuff to keep it from spoiling. Can't be real cream or real eggs - so what the heck are you ingesting?
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I was thinking the same thing. It must be super pasteurized like shelf stable milk.

Whatever it is its damn good. :D

Sam, you may want to check your labels list of what's in it. Embalming fluid is not supposed to be needed until.....:lol:

The voters ended State run liquor stores here in Washington almost a decade ago. BUT it was an unmitigated disaster because in doing so they instituted an additional 20.5% tax on top of the sales taxes. It was supposed to go away at some point but never did. Hence why I will sometimes buy liquor when I visit other States.
I generally dislike Government run anything but the prices when the State ran it were not bad at all. People need to really read the bills before voting on them.

I remeber them when Iwas stationed at Ft Lewis.

IIRC you could get whisky on the Indian Land along with fireworks.

Here in Iowa, you can stop at a gas station, fill up with gas, get a roller dog, and a 1 ltr or 1.75 ltr bottle of their finest swill.

I remember package stores in Iowa, just don?t remember when they went away. Back in the 80?s, I think.

I tried it once. very good for what it is. I think booze ruins the taste of eggnog, even back when I was drinking. rather drink either one straight and enjoy the flavor.

Bah Me Bah, Mike. Bah is "three" and Bah Me is "thirty" The beer featured a large "33" on the label. And if you had too much of it, you were well and truly pickled. It can be found in the states now, but they had to get rid of the formaldehyde to import it.

Thai "Tiger" whiskey was similarly infused with formaldehyde to the extent that you could smell it when you opened the bottle. Notorious for monumental hangovers as a result. Mixed drinks at the Special Forces hootch bar at Ban Me Thuot airfield set us back a whopping bah me lam - 35 cents. You could get seriously plowed for three bucks. If you still ran short of funds, beer was $2.40 a case. (Coke was $2.75!)

ruger41 - Did away with it huh? So now you got regular liquor stores or buy booze in Safeway? That reminds me Safeway had a great deal on Meyers's jugs for $19.00 a bottle and buy 6 bottles another 10% off. I ended up buying 4 of those and two of the new to me Crown Royal "something mash" that was $15.00 a bottle?

mrmike08075 - Like Jimmy Wah's beer from "Good Morning Vietnam". That reminds me of I wanna say San Miguel out or Flipanese.

Anyone else remember eggnog coming in heavy duty cans? I wanna say quart size? About as tall as two stacked cans of Chunky soup. Wish I remember who made those.

Numbers were about the only Vietnamese I picked up. It is such a tonal language that if you mispronounce a vowel even slightly, the word may change from neutral to highly insulting. Those diacritical marks in the written language are vital. But since our "little guy" translator riders only spoke in numbers, I eventually learned those. The code changed every mission, but the ground teams would report in whispers: "17...6...45...23" and my little guy would reply: "3...58". (If the ground team came up screaming, I didn't need to know numbers - they were in deep schit.)

When you get your whisky they put it in a paper sack. Written on the sack is the amount of money the sale of liquor has produced for the county.

I just went and looked at the bag and in my County(WAKE) the ABC stores have contributed $7.3 Million :o

That is a lot of money. I know the mark up is a lot because whisky is cheaper in GA where there are citizen run liquor stores.

I don't really like the state running the liquor sales. I like how they have it in Louisiana, you can get liquor anywhere. Every Gas station had beer and whiskey, boudain balls or fried turkey legs and chicken gizzards. I miss living there but my wife hated it and didn't stop bitchin for 3 years.

Talking about Foreign beer; African beer is good. In Kenya I like White Cap but Tusker isn't too bad.

Utah also has state liquor stores. Until recently, supermarkets could sell beer, but only 3.2 grade. To get full strength, you had to go to the state stores. That just changed. The Church influences (I won't say dictates) a lot of laws, and while they know they cannot prohibit drinking, they do their best to make it difficult - and expensive. Utah has a 46% "sin tax" markup over wholesale prices, making liquor store booze prices heart attack worthy. You have to really want the top shelf stuff or be a gazillionaire.

I wanted a small bottle of pure-grain to "strengthen" a batch of my apple brandy so I stopped at the state store in Christianburg, Virginia.
You can buy any hard liquor your heart desires there EXCEPT PURE-GRAIN!

    The reason?
They are located within a certain distance of a school.

Who comes up with this stupid BS?

Turn the liquor sales over to private industry and get busy governing the state!

This country is doomed to fail. We are going to stoopid ourselves to death.
I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

Ah the Korean rice beer. Had it at one of the Korean BBQ Joints near me. I wanna say Hite? Almost spat that mess out. Really would've if there was a potted plant. I wasn't expecting that odd flavor.

Regular liquor stores that carry everything from beer, wine, and spirits. There?s one I really like going to that?s like going into a warehouse with tons of different Bourbon, Scotch etc.

mrmike08075 - First damn mike... you know me so well. I was more Mickey's and I haven't had St. Ides since the '90s. Do you remember Crazy Horse malt liquor (should've kept the empties) they were made by the great folks who brought us Arizona Iced Teas (learnt that bit on youtube). Everything after "gin and juice" you lost me. Gin and grapefruit juice is pretty good. Hard to find grapefruit juice since most stores carry one brand maybe as I found out not too long ago.

ruger41 - Got regular liquor stores huh? With the usual window decorations of malt liquor that indicated where you are? Just like California :D.

I do like Bev Mo it's basically Costco of booze.
