It is expensive!

I don't usually do the shopping but I needed some Bacon because I was cooking Cornbread. I went to Food Lion and got a qt of Buttermilk and 12 oz package of bacon, the cheapest they had and it was $3.49. :o

I just cooked the bacon and poured in the cornbread and it went in the oven.

My wife is crunching on the beacon. I just drank the last of the buttermilk now I am waiting for cornbread :P

That's nothing. I've seen them priced at $7.99 a pound for nothing special Farmer John bacon. If I were to start buying 3 pound packages of bacon I'll need to buy a vacuum sealer. I wonder how much the sealers are going for these days? It might be worth it now? Or go in with friends to buy bulk and then split it.

You'd think with China not buying pork, bacon would be at give away prices. Maybe it's like DeBeers and diamonds where they artificially inflate the price of diamonds?

One thing I have learned about buying those larger than one pound packages of bacon is to never trust the use before dates on the packages!! I thought I was safe leaving an unopened tightly sealed 2 pounder in the meat drawer for just a week after purchase. The expiration date was an entire month away.

Opened it up on one of those gotta have a big bacon breakfast Sundays and the dang stuff was covered in slimy snot with that "sweet" smell of meat on the verge! It about broke my heart dumping it but my past experiences have saved MY bacon a time or two over the years!
