The homeless people

At one time, the so-called homeless people were known as hobo's who lived along the railroad tracks and hitched rides on freight trains from one are to another, often seeking some type of employment.

Today the so-called homeless people are partially mentally defective with the balance being druggies and lazy that are living off all the free government benefits provided for them via the government by the working taxpayer.

They have moved from the railroad tracks and bridges to the streets, road bridges and underpasses.

When, in the infinite wisdom of the lawmakers determined those held in the nut houses should be turned loose, they created the street hobo's. Add the huge number addicted to drugs and the numbers grew. Then the government expanded the entire welfare system which drew the lazy teat suckers into the fray.

Now, the situation has reached horrible, dramatic proportions the wise lawmakers have no idea how to contend with.

We can all congratulate the wisdom of the lawmakers we have placed into elected office who also live off our tax dollars and enjoy perks/benefits well beyond the average working persons.

The government has no rights. Only the people have rights which empowers the government.
We have enough gun laws, what we need is IDIOT control.

when the mental health care institutes hospitals , ( nut houses ) came to a end I blame the PC crowd for screaming poor care of the inmates and the over all cost per person I am sure it got to be just too much to handle for any state . city , even insurance company's do not want on the hook
just like the jails and prisons have gotten to the point of do not lock any one up , get them out fast its just costing too much .
mental institutes , prison , jails all need to go back to basic care and dorm type housing .
now the box has been opened and no going back .

could you image the out cry of the PC crowd if tomorrow all the homeless were rounded up placed in a "camp " for lack of better words , for starters they would need separate rooms complete medical care ,clothing, food, 24 hour care a doctor and there staff for each group of 20 people
then they would want overseers . managers , coordinators a huge staff of cooks , house keepers , some one handle the funding . security for all
other wise $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$
so easy just leave them on the street pick up the dead and turn your back on the infestation , drugs , filth , have the poor old LEO deal with th eproblems while ther hands are tied limiting what they can do

The fallacy that all mentally ill can be treated as outpatients in the least restrictive environment drove the great social experiment known as ?de- institutionalization?Open the doors and turn them all loose into community group houses etc . Treat them locally instead of in a hospital 😆. Great idea BUT! One problem .... lawmakers never funded the initiatives at the needed levels . Suddenly the community?s full of 100?s of mentally ill folks but only have money or staff to treat about 10 to 20% of those in need . Just look at California to see the results of this failed policy . Oh by the way it all started in New York and the spread across the country . I worked in a state run mental hospital from1977 t o 2010 so I saw it all first hand

I know old school "hobos" had "tags" like trail markers to find eats, kind folks, etc in town (read articles in The Backwoodman) and from what I read they'll at least try to work unlike the "Street Hobos". What was that hobo movie where the train dude had a metal bar on a rope that would bounce off the rail road ties that would bang loose the hobos riding free? Buschmaster's post reminded me of that. Another thing I remember hobos have like a jamboree in Ohio? Seen a docco on that.

So is being a hobo a life style like drag queens or gypos?

I do not think hobo's are in the same ball park as homeless mental patients we have all come to know
look at the 1930's during the depression countless people looking for work just wondering the country searching out work but yet they were homeless
many years back a Tv news show maybe 60 minutes ? did a story on a middle class fellow who would leave home and ride the rails as a hobo taking no money or really any thing with him stay gone for weeks just traveling the country and show back up to a nice house and wife and start over he loved the free life style .

and I think Allen G posted on here about riding trains in his youth in the USA maybe even Canada and has posted photos
I guess they would be considered homeless in I think Era way .

    Yosh
I saw that movie many years ago your referring to ( i watch a lot of movies maybe not as many as you but my share :D )
here is a quick info on it
Ernest if I remember was the bad RR cop
    Emperor of the North Pole
Emperor of the North Pole is a 1973 American DeLuxe Color film directed by Robert Aldrich, starring Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, and Keith Carradine.

I think it was Zipperzap that posted pics of riding on a train. I could be wrong, but I remember he also did the baha races.....what a life he had! I wish I had gotten to meet him before he passed away.

There were categories of homeless back then. It was a self-rating system.

A hobo was a guy (they were almost always men back then) who chose to be on the road, would gladly take part-time jobs, and seldom begged.

A tramp was a guy who would rather beg than work for his keep but would work.

A bum was a guy who refused to work, and only begged or stole from houses.

And then there was the bindlestiff, who did nothing but steal, including from other homeless people.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Its like Hitchhiking. I used to hitchhike all the time and I would pick up hitchhikers if they looked like they were clean and not crazy.

Now there is no way. Everyone I have seen is nasty.

I saw a guy begging on the side of the rode the other day; he was smoking a cigarette and drinking from a Starbucks coffee cup. I wanted to stop and give him some advice to hide that before begging, what a DA.

Down toward Raleigh where Hwy50 crosses I540, Capital Bvd and where Six Forks Crosses I540 there is a gang of beggars, these are all major intersections. They have an old Van and the Van drops them all off at their assigned locations where they all have a sign Homeless God Bless or something like that. I have seen people hand them $20 bills. They even have reflector vests and they make these little "shrines" during the holidays. These are what I would call professional beggars, they are organized, equipped and have a support system in place.

I would burn my money before I gave them a dime.

I like "bindlestiff" - should come in handy in San Francisco. I've conjured up a plan, goes something like this ?..

I accept that one way or another I get stuck footing the bill for all sorts of people. At no point, whatever the plan, will my taxes go down because "the homeless problem is solved". With that in mind, I'm fine building very nice livable mini-cities in places like 29 Palms or NV or anyplace else separated from society. Let them live there - will provide food, water, booze, drugs and whatever is needed. Not extravagant, but suitable. The price for admission is a Norplant device in the arm. Step outside the geofencing the first time and a knock out dose is administered. Do it a 2nd time and the dose is fatal.

Of course a person can leave any time they want, but once outside they get no benefits. Commit a crime - off to jail. Become a bum, or bindlestiff, and they go back to "Camp Happy" except that they don't get a 2nd chance at leaving. 1st try gets a heavy does.

The above would apply to able bodied adults. Minors and those who through no fault of their own can't make it would be treated differently.

Just drop them off in Tonopah, Nevada. Hundreds of abandoned homes, free for the taking.

They will have to call on emergency powers before long, too bad President Trump probably will not be in office at the time.We will probably have a half bake socialist like a whata'be Obama in 2021 to have to deal with a crumbling economic disaster after losing the petrol reserve currency designation in U.S.dollars on the world stage.

    You are 1,000% wrong.

We don't have any beggars in this small city. Local PD officers found a female begging on east side of town. They searched her and found $700 tucked away on her body. They drove her to the city limits and told her she had a choice, leave this county or go to jail.

Don't think she has been seen back here since.

The homeless / helpless have a better choice than to live under bridges in cold climates in filthy tents and suffer from malnutrition and possibly freeze to death.

They can go to SLAB CITY, California. Hot in summer but 3 / 4 thousands "snow birds" all show up there in Nov. / Dec to enjoy doing nothing and being comfortable while doing it.
    Slab city info.
The land Slab City is on is owned and managed by the state of California. Camp Dunlap, the former World War II base that left the concrete "slabs" that form the foundation of Slab City, was given back to the state in 1961 and subsequently dismantled. located not to far from LA, San Diego, Mexican border.

More personal and detailed "walk around tour" by a tourist that had a visit to "slab city" on their bucket list.

I saw me a seasonal bum holding a cardboard yesterday on Carmel Valley Rd and Carmel Rancho Blvd. Usually there's one at highway 1 and Rio Rd. a block away. We're talking premo perch being that it's Carmel. I figure this dude was working since it was cold and wet yesterday. I'll see if he shows up again later today.

That is the way to do it!

I saw a special on the News a year or so ago where they put surveillance on some chick that was begging and acting like she was crippled. They followed her to where she started walking fine changed her outfit and got in a BMW. They outed her and she didn't even care.
