I found the answer to my question but could not post it to the original thread because it was closed.
The best answer to the original question was to find a local gun dealer that would handle the shipping and process the payment. The buyer can pay with a credit card and thus have buyer protection and because the gun dealer that processes the payment also handles the shipping they can make sure that the gun is shipped and is as described in the GunBroker listing.
