Meat to eat

I was just taking inventory of the freezer contents.   I need to get busy cooking.  Besides the ham, bacon, and pork loin I have froze there is a bunch of wild game and fish left.   With this new set of knees I got out more than I had for years.  There is still 13 bags of fish left, 40 squirrels, most of the two deer I shot and one turtle.   Spring fishing is upon us already and we haven't eaten up what we caught last year.

I didn't make the trek to South Dakota last fall for bird season, though a friend did give me a few pheasants and some elk strap (those have been eaten).   I usually bring a chest cooler full of stuff home from there when I go.   Good thing I don't have beagles anymore or I would have a freezer full of rabbits too.

I did give quite a bit of venison and fish away to some folks.   Looks like I need to give away some more.

I just have one son living with me now and he is only here half the time.  My mother was living with me but she had a hemorrhagic stroke in the middle of December.  She is doing well, she recovered as well as can be expected and was in rehab for awhile.  That took some time away when I didn't cook much for about two months as I was taking care of her and arranging things that needed done.  She is now in Florida with one of my sisters.  So it's just me and a 13 year old who is here half the time.  I'm used to stocking up for a house full.  My other three sons could really eat and had friends around a lot so I went through a lot of groceries.  I guess I need to  find more people that need some fresh game because I actually want to hunt and fish more, not less.
