Ran some errands, paid some car taxes, picked up some lumber Lowes.. went to the bank to make a withdrawal... Well not exactly.... The Bank only would give me 5K... I ask for more. Imagine that No money in the banks.. So I put in an order to take out some......Ready... It won't be there for a week.

Wondering if the Feds have a limit on withdrawals? Went to the Bank of America a few yrs back and they only had 9K cash on hand. Isn't that something.

Seems banks just love to do digital transfers all over the place now days. No real money just numbers going into or out of accounts.    Been thinking a good feather mattress with a locking zipper might be in my future!

I'd have closed my account right then and there!

That wouldn't work...they would have given a cashiers check that you couldn't cash at another bank for a few days. I am telling y'all banks have no liquid money on hand.

I ask for more they only would give me 5k. Said it would take a week to get the rest I requested in an order. And that amount is not that much .

I was thinking of doing the same. I keep a few weeks of my salary in the safe already, I was thinking of moving to a month of cash on hand.

All of my bills are paid electronically already so as long as they can keep moving numbers around a month of cash seems excessive.

Any amount under 10 grand should be immediately available or I change banks. A two day wait is more than sufficient for amounts over that.

I went to the bank yesterday.  I moved some money from checking to savings and withdrew 5K from my checking account.  Local small town bank and it's not uncommon for me to make cash withdraws like this.  But I noticed they looked at me kind of funny yesterday.  I didn't even think about they may have been dealing with a lot of cash withdraws and getting short on cash.

It's common for people to want cash on hand if something is going on.  Even though the people I talk to realize this virus risk is getting blown out of proportion it is still only prudent to take care of your self and family.  Just because you know it's BS doesn't mean people's and the government's reaction won't affect you.

I have grown to really hate Bank of America.  They f***** me several years ago and I will not forget or forgive.

I went to the bank just now and said I wanted 5k cash and she told me I could have my balance of$123. So they don’t have it either

When I left Sheppard AFB back in '74 I went without closing my account a their Federal Credit Union.  Never looked back. IIRC, I had at least 50 bucks in that account and am pretty sure what they owe me must be in the astronomical range by now!  :o

At least I can sleep soundly knowing that I am rich and have no worries!

Two of my banks are in the top 10. I wouldn't think the others would act any different.

There is no limit however the money is most likely not there... of course anything over 10k on a transaction has to be reported.. even on purchase of anything  UNLESS it is a face to face with an individual .

I went to our local bank and withdrew $5k in 20s the other day.  It’s buried in a coffee can out back in case everything goes to hell.  It’s a real small bank in a small town.  The teller didn’t even flinch when I asked for it.  And with the crappy interest nowadays, I’m not losing that much by keeping it liquid.
lets hope that things don’t go too far south.

Coffee cans rust to fast underground.  Better to use gallon jars.  Remember to use zinc coated lids and rings, the regular ones rust to fast just like the coffee cans.

its been ten years plus I went to the bank to get 10k cash you would think I was holding them up had to get the manager and even he did not want to give it to me .  I had to go back next day same they told me they  did not keep  a lot cash at the banks  its all paper work ( if there a run on banks people will be pissed for sure )
they did there best to get me to take a cashiers check  I explained you ever try to  deal with a check,  cash in hand makes a big difference  when buying .. I still had to fill out federal forms to get the cash . uncle sam hates cash,  no tracking of your money
why I think we are destined to go cashless and everyone will just have a account number all transactions filter thru

Just got back from the bank where I withdrew $6,000 cash.  Teller did not blink.  Will withdraw $3,500 more tomorrow.   There is a $10,000 MONTHLY limit or they have to fill out forms for the Feds.  So, I will write a check to my dau tomorrow for $6,000 more.

Going to the sto and add to my bug-out food supply. :)

Note to self:  Don't bury money where moisture will get to it.  Mildew will destroy it.  Ask me how I know.

Used to get a phone call about every couple of months from the bank I used for business deposits. They would be running out of cash and wanted to know when I was coming in to make my daily deposit. I would hurry up and get the deposit ready and take it across the street to the bank. I didn't mind because I figured some of their customers probably were returning the money to me shortly after cashing their paychecks. Every Monday a teller would joke with me about filling out the Fed form because my weekend money drops in the night depository  always added up to more than the 10 grand limit for reporting. If the dang drug dealers could take credit cards they wouldn't try to trace them through large cash deposits and withdrawals. Bob

Personally I'd prefer my money IN the bank, what good is cash? Paper with virus on it LOL.
I withdrew 10K about eight years ago, no issue. I mean hell if you have it in there who cares if they tell the IRS its my money and I can use it to buy a car or camper or whatever I want. I get the depositing large sums of cash raising a red flag as to money laundering but taking out money you put in over years or so shouldn't really matter.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Hobo, it sounds like what you're doing could be illegal. Taking your own money out of your own account is a felony if you withdraw it with the intent to avoid the Feds. It is called 'structuring' and it is one of the most un-American things I've ever heard of.

It is only structuring if he is avoiding tripping the barrier, the barrier is not monthly it is daily and generally the Feds are looking into deposits not withdrawals.  Going to different branches on the same day will be caught by them as well.  ,Why deposits not withdrawals?  Withdrawals/check/wire transfers etc are "clean" money if it is in the account and not tripping alarms the criminal has already won that round.

As has been previously stated in this post, it is in his account, he can take out any amount he wishes, let them write it up who cares?  If it was obtained legally it is "clean" and perfectly legal to have.

Not just where you are.  The banks here do the same, and for lesser amount than you stated, SF.

I pulled out 5k in mixed bills today and they really didn’t show any concern.

Bank of America, would be about the last place I would do business with, based on my prior experience.

I dumped them yrs ago. Funny we got a 1.31 check from them the other day. No expiration on it.
